This concept aligns perfectly with the philosophy of the #Makers, especially at Maker Faire Rome. Just as Anderson sees generosity as the most significant idea to spread, Maker Faire Rome embodies this principle by sharing skills, spreading knowledge, and promoting the concept of "paying it forward" (remember the 2000 movie? 🎥). In "Pay It Forward," young Trevor McKinney initiates a chain of good deeds that spread exponentially. This idea of helping others without expecting anything in return but encouraging those helped to do the same for three others, is the essence of Maker Faire Rome. We think we have one of the most interesting co-founder stories, here it is: The story begins in Barcelona, in December 2023. Neev Efrat was traveling to film documentaries on wave reactors, while Rahul Dhiman was crossing off an item from his bucket list—taking a solo trip across Spain, staying in hostels, and meeting amazing people from all around the world (and I guess Neev). Destiny had it that Neev and Rahul were staying in the same hostel in Barcelona and quickly connected on various levels of conversation. At the time, Neev was ideating the conception of Spiral, a company that would help deep-tech founders showcase their technologies with content, with the vision of empowering technical founders to build their online brand and raise capital quicker. A pretty unique and niche idea, right? Wrong. Rahul told Neev about his background as an engineer and filmmaker and that, once he returned to Chicago from his Spain trip, he was going to officially start CineTech Productions. Which… was pretty much the same idea. As you might guess, Neev and Rahul spent the next few days in Spain fully ideating the business together and joining forces. Wrong again. With both Neev and Rahul’s Spain trips coming to an end, coupled with the fact that they had literally just met less than 24 hours ago, they eventually went their separate ways. Neev started Spiral Stories and Rahul started CineTech Productions. Neev and Rahul kept in touch on social media, and fast forward a few months, a few conversations, and a few clients later, they addressed the elephant in the room. Last Thursday, I had the chance to dive into Propelify again in Hoboken, and I'm still buzzing from the experience. This innovation festival, masterfully orchestrated by Aaron Price and TechUnited.co, is really gaining momentum in the tech world. Now that I've had time to process, here are my key takeaways: 1. AI dominated the conversation: Founders and leaders shared invaluable insights on scaling with AI and navigating our rapidly evolving tech landscape. 2. Funding insights: Got the inside scoop on what VCs are looking for in today's market. 3. The power of in-person networking: The energy was electric, and I made connections that just wouldn't happen virtually. It's reminded me why these events are so crucial. 4. Heavyweight speakers: Heard from industry titans like Marc Lore (Diapers.com, Jet.com) and Carolyn Everson (ex-Instacart CEO, now on boards like The Coca-Cola Company and The Walt Disney Company). 5. Hands-on with new tools: From AI to startup strategies, the message was clear - dive into these new technologies or risk falling behind. Reflecting on it all, I'm struck by how Propelify perfectly balances cutting-edge innovation with the irreplaceable value of face-to-face interactions. 🎨 My Experience at the Creatives Meetup 2024: Unleashing Innovation and Collaboration I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Creatives Meetup 2024 on May 21, and it was nothing short of inspiring! This event brought together creative innovators from various fields, offering a perfect blend of workshops, discussions, and keynotes. Here’s a glimpse of my experience: 🌟 Inspiring Keynote Speakers Listening to leading voices in the Finnish creative sphere was truly motivating. The keynote speakers shared their personal career stories and insights, providing invaluable knowledge that sparked new ideas and perspectives for me. 🛠️ Interactive Workshops The workshops were a highlight of the event. Collaborating with fellow creatives from diverse disciplines helped me develop new business ideas and find creative solutions to challenges. It was a fantastic way to push boundaries and think outside the box. 🤝 Networking Opportunities One of the best parts of the meetup was connecting with other creatives. I had the chance to expand my professional network, meet like-minded individuals, and explore potential collaborative opportunities. Whether artists, designers, photographers, or artisans, everyone was eager to share and connect. 💡 Innovative Business Pitches The Creative Demo Day was particularly exciting. Participants from the Aalto Digital Creatives and Uniarts Hub pre-incubator programs pitched their innovative ideas to a jury of industry experts. It was inspiring to see such creativity and entrepreneurship in action, and it left me with a lot to think about for my own projects. Supported by the City of Helsinki, these pre-incubator programs are part of the Campus Incubator network, which fosters an environment where creativity meets entrepreneurship. --- Attending the Creatives Meetup 2024 was a fantastic experience. It was a space to unleash creative potential, connect with passionate professionals, and be part of a vibrant community pushing the boundaries of innovation. Should you talk and praise your "competition"? During a recent interview, I was asked about Impact Day's relationships with other similar festivals. This question sparked a reflection on how we often shy away from discussing other companies in our field, fearing it might steer potential customers towards them instead of us. However, I believe the opposite is true. So this post is about praising other very cool festivals around us. sTARTUp Day is an awesome festival. Three of their former head organizers, along with other team members, provided us with invaluable mentorship when we were launching Impact Day. In fact, half of our name is inspired by them! Latitude59 serves as a fantastic role model. Despite Estonia facing an economic downturn for over two years, they have managed to sell out twice in a row and expand to a new country raising all of our beliefs. Nordic Business Forum is someone to follow as their customer experience is from another level and if one day we with Impact Day can do even half of it, we have done more than an excellent job. These are just three great reasons why you shouldn’t limit yourself to choosing between events. Attend all three—and us too, of course! It was so great to listen in to the very first Born Global Stories event at NIO Norge today! It was really inspiring and invigorating to hear about 3 very different stories: 1) Rodi A. sharing about his incredible journey from 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐚, to ending up 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭-𝐮𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲: - His journey started in Sweden, where due to them losing his papers, he had to repeat middle school and high school in order to be able to study at university! - He completed all of it, including learning Swedish, in record time, and built up his work experience from catering at Ikea, to heading up product manager in charge of several stores, and way more. His story is truly inspirational and full of incredible grit! 2) Andreas Nyman talking about NIO Norge's story - from its inception in China to what needed adapting in Norway: - How do you localize a brand, that is a lifestyle brand in China, and adapt it to the Norwegian way of life? - 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦: Even in Norway, what might work in Oslo may not work in Trondheim and vice versa! - 𝐓𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥: Be open to new ideas and cultures. Try the new thing - even if you don't think it will work in your market, because you never know! Prime example: Norwegian consumerism versus renting. Norwegians tend to like owning things, but with NIO you have 2 options - 1 of them being purchasing an EV car without a battery and having a BaaS subscription instead. So what are some tips? - 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: The climate and darkness here can be difficult to deal with, yet Norwegians have survived here for centuries. Respect the tenacity and expertise that comes with this history, embrace it, and bond over it - 𝐃𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧: Norwegian culture is very much one of getting on with things. So try not to complain overtly - Norwegians have a tendency to want to fix things.
