In a private letter ruling published last week, the IRS found that a nonprofit organized to (1) host networking opportunities for local business owners and (2) raise capital for their businesses was not exempt under 501(c)(3). Here are some excerpts from the ruling: > "You are operated for a substantial nonexempt purpose. Your activities include managing businesses, promoting networking events, and supporting businesses in your local area through offering grants to cover their start up costs." > "The facts show that you are operated for the benefit of your members. You are operated to serve the private interests of your member businesses in contravention to Treas. Reg. According to a #wills and #EstatePlanning survey conducted by Caring, the number of Americans with a will dropped by six percent in 2024, the first decline in four years. Overall, the survey shows a need for more education — a function often taken on by professional advisors — on the importance of estate planning. Many Americans, especially those with fewer assets, may not understand the full benefits of having a will.
