To examine how inclusionary zoning can ease Los Angeles’s housing crisis, Shane Phillips modeled how the policy could impact affordable development when applied in different ways. 🌆 In the newest episode of #UCLAHousingVoice, Shane sits down (as a guest this time) with professor Michael Lens to explain what he found. 🎧Tune in to learn more!: https://lnkd.in/ghkRMmVc

Spoiler alert: I listened in on advance preparations for this #HousingCentral conference session, and while I don't use the word "humdinger" lightly, this is a humdinger of a session. Add to your agenda for November 20th for engaging tales of municipal policies, processes and affordable housing.
If you are attending #HousingCentral on Wednesday, November 20th, join me, Lynn Roxburgh and Hugh Forster at our panel - Zoned Out: Municipal Partnership for Affordable Housing. We will be hearing from the City of New Westminster and Forster Projects on removing barriers, collaboration, and streamlining approval processes to advance affordable and family-friendly housing.

Nice work, Worthington City Council! I just watched an hour of its May 20th meeting, specifically to see the summary presentation on its housing study that was covered in the Columbus Dispatch recently. The 150-page housing study, which is available on the City's website, will serve as a guide to Worthington's upcoming Comprehensive Plan. The housing portion runs from 32:15 to 1:32:00; and the hour includes Q&A and discussion among Council and the presenters, AND citizen comments, too. Among the topics addressed were: cost-burdened residents (those spending more than 30% of income on housing costs); (the need for) zoning revisions to address density and certain barriers (being land-locked and/or built-out); "displaced commuters" (workers who can't afford to live where they work); and residents' fears of being priced out of their homes -- all familiar themes. https://lnkd.in/gwpY_iNu

With the need for affordable housing Increasing, the availability of land decreasing, and the imposition of rent controls at an exceedingly onerous level an existing mobile home parks, the conversion a mobile home parks to higher density housing is going to become a larger trend. In Southern California, and one community where rent Controls have been highly restrictive, a 230 unit mobile home park has been closed, the tenants compensated and relocated, and will be replaced by 1100 residential units. I would disagree with the author on one point, his recommendation of rent controls as a way to slow the trend and preserve affordable housing. imposition of rent controls on mobile home parks will exacerbate the trend of closing mobile home parks for more intensive residential development. #mobilehomeparks #manufacturedhomes #affordablehousing
