A year ago, I began pursuing my true passion by starting the Master's in Urban and Regional Planning program at Georgetown University! This Summer I took an incredible course with Professor Chris Pyke called New Urban Technologies covering the foundational works of innovation and technology adoption, which inspired my attached article about Washington, D.C.'s history, present, and future of an increasingly popular urban planning strategy known as "Transit-Oriented Development" (TOD). What do you think about TOD? What about Trams/streetcars? Where is your favorite TOD in DC or elsewhere? Please share any thoughts you have! #UrbanPlanning #Innovation #Disruption #PublicTransport #TransitOrientedDevelopment #Trams

Our Transforming Homes consortium gathered at the University of Exeter to share progress of our #GreenTransitionEcosystem project. It has now been one year since we launched our ambitious research focussing on the transformation of 1920s-1940s council-built housing in the UK to meet the needs of present and future generations. The two-day event featured a variety of engaging activities, including: 🔹 A presentation from Abigail Fisher, Investment Manager for the Design, Commercialisation and Innovation team at Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), who shared valuable perspectives on AHRC's initiatives aimed at advancing high-quality research in the Arts and Humanities and how these efforts relate to our #GTE initiative. 🔹 Updates from our #interdisciplinary consortium, showcasing progress on various fronts. This included #designresearch cataloguing innovative solutions for interwar houses, updates on our demonstration homes in Bristol and Swansea, and strategies for stakeholder #engagement that integrate diverse expertise into #inclusive and feasible long-term solutions. 🔹 Workshops aimed at identifying potential outputs and target audiences, with feedback from industry partners Alliance for Sustainable Building Products, Mikhail Riches, WeCanMake, and Knowle West Media Centre. This sparked fruitful discussions on the project's unique aspects and the potential to transfer solutions derived from our research. As we enter the second year of this dynamic project, we look forward to continuing our #research and #codesigning innovative #housing solutions to transform the UK’s existing building stock. Thank you to Cam Good and KEY Marketing for hosting us U40 members at the Leadership Breakfast in your beautiful space! Thank you also to Urban Development Institute for organizing this event. It was wonderful to meet like minded RE professionals at this morning's intimate venue, and always great to hear and learn about Cam's career journey. My personal takeaways: - Figure out what you want to do and really evaluate if you are willing to do what it takes to get there. - Disruption and innovation has its limits, be self aware of where it crosses the line. - Believe in yourself and what you stand for and continue with conviction. People may not understand at first what it is you are trying to achieve but over time and hard work, the results will speak for themselves.
I attended the Urban Development Institute School of Development years ago. I made friends I still have to this day and it gave me a fundamental understanding of the whole industry which has paid huge dividends over the years. Last month... I had the opportunity to share my experience alongside an amazing panel of speakers including Geoff Matthews of Strand Development Limited, Blaire Chisholm of Pooni Group, Matthew Walton of Anthem Properties Group Ltd. and Dan Chyzowski, Jason Short, and Matteo Lanci of ETRO Construction to walk through the ABC's of Real Estate Development alongside our course facilitator Michael von Hausen. This morning... I had the pleasure of meeting UDI's U40 members at KEY Marketing's head office for more sharing. 100% of registrants showed up and I was particularly impressed by those who stuck around after to learn more. The future is bright for Alison Cowling, Samson Tam, Leanne Washuta, Alanna Cation, Jeff Fong, Kevin Starke, Kassy Crocker, Nora Throness, Sienna Wheeler (Richardson-Isberg), Brandon Pao, Champston Le, Cassidy Le Troy, Nicholas Campbell and Grace Martin. Thanks to Verna Yu and the rest of the UDI team for facilitating so much learning in our industry.

Are you aged 16-24 and live (or have an interest in) Liverpool City Region? We're hosting a FREE workshop to explore key themes of the #SpatialDevelopmentStrategy for LCR looking ahead to the year 2040. 🌟 FREE workshop on Thursday 11th January 5:30-7:30pm at Artisane, 54 James Street in Liverpool 🌟 Book your ticket to secure a place 🌟 Have your say on the Liverpool City Region #SDS What is the Spatial Development Strategy and why is it important? How we use and develop land affects many aspects of our lives. It is therefore important that the people, communities and businesses of the city region have chance to influence and shape this. The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is preparing a Spatial Development Strategy (SDS). This will set out a framework for the future development and use of land in the city region looking ahead to 2040. This includes planning for homes, the economy and jobs, infrastructure and natural environment. We need your input in getting the strategy right. This is an opportunity for you to have your say on a wide range of draft policies making up the Spatial Development Strategy. We'll then use this feedback to help refine and improve these policies as we prepare a final version. What will the workshop be? We're wanting to chat with you about the policies, what they are and which are the most important to you. We'll play some interactive games to get everyone thinking about them and exploring the different themes. We're looking to engage with people aged 16-24 years old. We will also have some time in the workshop to meet with different industry professionals and look at different portfolios - this is a great chance for any students or recent graduates (or if you're just interested!) who may want some expert advice. If you have any questions or concerns, email kim@placed.org.uk. https://lnkd.in/efvzXfkt #LCRListens #PLACED #LCRCA #SDS #2040 Liverpool City Region Combined Authority
