The beautiful thing about this throwback is it reminds me of a little story I heard somewhere?
Once upon a time, there was only one hero company capable of creating a unique very product, sadly an evil mid cap growth investor, came along and placed a couple low class stupid trolls with hatchets in place and drove away the hero knights and all the brilliant innovators. Luckily because the world NEEDS this “kind” of solution a very wise and brilliant knight in shining armor was able to envision a “similar appearing” yet “truly different” and “superior technology” to make the world better once again. And while credit is rightfully being given to an entire new team of knights, that one great knight with the practical knowledge and great vision brought this fairy tale into its new reality. Moral of this story appreciate and richly reward the knights in shining armor.

Unarguably, suction strainer is one of the best friend of pump, if properly sized and selected, and maintained. Otherwise, it can turn into the worst enemy.
Pump Cavitation and performance issues on account of strainer is quite common to see in industries.
Sizing and selection is all about tradeoffs between pressure drop and filtration quality. Too fine mesh means high pressure drop and easily gets choked. Too course allows more solids to pass.
