Chinese Dragon Members Arrested over Apple Store Clash - https://lnkd.in/gxgT2-3C TOKYO, Sep 18 (News On Japan) - Seven members of the organized crime group 'Chinese Dragon,' including 50-year-old Kazujirou Shirai, were arrested for disrupting business operations by causing a public disturbance in front of an Apple store in Omotesando, Shibuya Ward, Tokyo. https://lnkd.in/gSgTYVvT The incident occurred over a five-day period in September last year, during which the group repeatedly shouted loudly and interfered with the store's operations. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the Chinese Dragon gang had gathered in large numbers, with two separate groups forming outside the store to purchase the newly released iPhone models for resale purposes. However, tensions flared between the groups over how the queue was organized, leading to heated arguments. As a result of the disruption, the store halted in-person sales of the iPhones, limiting purchases to pre-orders only. Source: ANN Source

I have to admit, this is (in an odd way) impressive: "As well as being superficially convincing, these counterfeits bore the serial numbers of genuine Apple devices bought in the US and still under warranty"... This specific (complex) case from Apple demostrates the advances in and entrepreneurial spirit of counterfeitters willing to go to 'the next level' to dupe consumers and exploit brands. This is the major headache of brands- a constant battle of how to stay ahead in this scenario. Technology and investment in this space must keep evolving otherwise brands run the risk of losing their hard earnt brand equity; and ultimately the consumer. The same goes for Grey Market- although the product could be genuine, a bad experience purchasing may put a consumer off the brand for life. Well done to all involved in this case and resulting convictions. https://lnkd.in/ep_hNwXp

In a pivotal legal battle, Apple Inc. faces serious allegations that its AirTag devices, designed to help users find lost items, are being exploited by stalkers, posing significant safety risks. 🚨 Last week, a San Francisco District Court judge denied Apple's motion to dismiss a class-action lawsuit, allowing the case to proceed based on claims that AirTags' safety features are inadequate to prevent misuse. This lawsuit emphasizes the urgent need for tech companies to prioritize consumer safety in their innovations, highlighting a growing concern over the potential dangers of tracking technology. As we navigate the complexities of modern tech, it's imperative to balance innovation with the protection of individual privacy and security. https://lnkd.in/e9jmpQ4f #LegalTech #ConsumerSafety #PrivacyLaw #AppleAirTags

Is there any truth to this rumor? Would it be bad if? Apple's public commitment to privacy seems at odds with its alleged behind-the-scenes cooperation with law enforcement agencies. While promoting iPhones as secure and privacy-centric devices, the company has reportedly hosted covert "Global Police Summit" events to help law enforcement optimize the use of Apple products for surveillance and investigations. These summits, held at Apple's Cupertino headquarters in 2019 and 2023, brought together police officers from around the world to discuss leveraging iPhones, Macs, CarPlay, and Vision Pro for law enforcement purposes. Apple's collaborations with police departments, particularly in California, are not widely publicized. #PrivacyVsSurveillance #TechEthics #DataSecurity #CybersecurityNews #LawEnforcementTech #DigitalPrivacy #TechForGood #ApplePrivacy #GlobalPoliceSummit read the full article on Forbes

Did you know the first-ever SMS was sent on the 3rd December 1992? It just said, "Merry Christmas."🎅🏻🎄 (Without the Emojis......Obvs😉) Crazy to think that one simple message kicked off a mobile revolution. Fast forward to today, and phones aren’t just for texting — they hold entire digital lives. For those in DFIR and investigations, it means the game has changed massively to where we are now. Devices are harder to unlock, tools are more advanced, and the challenges? They’re moving at lightning speed. So, I’m curious: 🌟 What’s the biggest shift in mobile forensics you’ve seen? 🌟 What’s the one thing keeping you up at night moving forward? #DFIR #Policing #DigitalForensics

Unacceptable. Samsung Electronics, do better. This is why we need both right-to-repair legislation and proper privacy laws. In what universe is it OK for a customer to bring a phone in to repair an issue unrelated to its screen, but then have its "unauthorized aftermarket" screen removed? So the customer chooses either an unnecessary repair or a nonworking phone? This is nothing short of a shakedown by Samsung. #RightToRepair #privacy #Samsung #predatory #SharpPractice

The author of this article suggests: “The Biden administration has made competition a cornerstone of its economic policy, with Silicon Valley becoming a key focus. And it comes as the European Commission is gearing up to announce probes into compliance with the Digital Markets Act — the European Union’s new gatekeeper rules for Big Tech — by Apple and Alphabet Inc.’s Google.” This bodes negative for the Presidential election as both sides are likely to make an issue of this precedent setting suit albeit from different perspectives.

16 states #Attorneys general join #DOJ in anti-Apple antitrust suit. Potentially Armageddon for #Apple if this goes to trial. Any settlement would likely not be a win vfor #Apple given the myriad harsh anti-market allegations in the 88 page complaint. #Apple Will have to hit back hard on this one and take no prisoners. This is classic “bet the farm litigation” not for the faint of heart. One wonders if the #derivstive plaintiffs’ bar will wade in with colorable claims. It’s just the beginning of what promises to be a long court battle with both sides pulling no punches.

🤔 Imagine that, by making it easier to enter reports, officers are more diligent in documenting their interactions, resulting in better data on officer activity. Who would have thought? During my time as a Lieutenant in the NYPD's Information Technology Bureau, starting in 2015, we equipped every officer with cell phones loaded with applications to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and (most importantly) safety by providing quick access to crucial data in the field. A recent study analyzed the impact of these phones on officers' activities and discovered a curious pattern: an 18% increase in reported [Terry] stops after precincts received iPhones. Interestingly, this did not lead to more arrests or complaints from the public. Instead, it showed that "unproductive stops"—those not leading to further action—were being reported more frequently. #LawEnforcement #Technology #DataDrivenPolicing #NYPD #EfficiencyInPolicing https://lnkd.in/euzPWjee
