Last week, Christine Y. Cruzvergara, our Chief Education Strategy Officer, presented at the Classroom to Career Summit hosted by President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and U.S. Department of Education. Christine shared Handshake data highlighting how institutions and employers can create opportunities that align with Gen Z's priorities and current job market demands. We were joined with leaders from Jobs for the Future (JFF), Dallas College, and Rutgers University, who all advocated for how post-secondary education can be shaped to meet the skills demand. So many people are still buzzing from last week's Career Development Association Australia National Conference in Melbourne 🔥 As this little snippet from Lucy Sattler's packed-out ballroom explains, we need to get young people to be thinking WAY WIDER than the 'same 10 jobs' they always think of when they're challenged. 50% of students aspire to just 1% of the jobs available out there (simply because they don't know of many others), it's any wonder why they end up choosing courses of study that aren't right for them. Or start a career they don't enjoy. Lucy's presentation about the CADI #CareerClusters was incredibly well received last week, and that's because it's an easy way for everyone in education to talk about the world of work. And it's free. The only problem I've got now is getting so many new schools and career practitioners up-to-speed on delivering it! (Thankfully, that's easy for them to do 😉 ) Check out a little of Lucy's talk below: #SearchForTheCareerClusters #careers #CDAA #pathways #careerdevelopment #cadiclusters #studyworkgrow #CareerEducation #schoolcounselor #careersadvisor #careercounselor #highschool #hr

Serving as the department faculty placement coordinator for two years has given me valuable insights. The ultimate goal of education is not just gaining knowledge but also developing skills and enhancing employability. As educators, we often have varied perspectives on this subject. What I want to highlight is the transformation I witness in my students when they start seeking employment opportunities during their final year. Some students are proactive, aware of the industry's demands, and work towards it from the beginning. Others immerse themselves in college life and only focus on employment in their final year. Then there are the smart ones who manage to balance both academics and career planning. Which category did you fall into during your college days? #placements #college #carrier

What an incredible turnout at Michigan Technological University's Michigan Day Career Fest! Hundreds of students had the chance to explore career opportunities with top companies from across the state, including 13 U.P. employers. As a region, the U.P is blessed with nearly 20,000 higher-ed students. According to Amy Berglund of InvestUP, for a rural region, this is “significant” and reflects why this is “a great opportunity to introduce students to the U.P. employers, and also the U.P. employers to the students.” With MTU enrollment surging to 7,430 and earning accolades for early career salaries, the Michigan Day Career Fest couldn’t come at a better time! This paired momentum is creating exciting opportunities for both students and U.P. employers. It’s a privilege to be invited as a panelist by one of the leading educational institutions to share insights on Career Counseling, especially with parents. Such opportunities allow me to contribute to shaping young minds by guiding parents on supporting their children’s aspirations and career choices. I'm excited to exchange ideas, offer expertise, and create meaningful impact through this session. Looking forward to an engaging and productive interaction with the parents and the institution. #careercounselling #studentgrowth #personalityassessment #careercoach
