All it takes is a liiiiiittle time. Let me tell you a story: I started by blog, Undiscovered Path Home, almost four years ago now (!). It took me almost 8 months for my first article to reach Google's front page for its respective keyword. At times, it felt like I was publishing and working for nothing. But you know what happened after that? In the next 6 months, 4 of my blog posts hit page one on Google for highly competitive keywords. And the exponential growth continued from there. It wasn't luck. It was strategy...and a little bit of patience. Now, my blog receives 3 million + impressions in search EVERY SIX MONTHS! Blogging isn't a get-rich-quick scheme if you do it the right way. I wanted to believe that when I first started, because it seemed everyone wanted to promote that narrative. But blogging IS a long-term game with long-term benefits. And now, I earn passive income from my blog that helps support my travels... and that's aside from my partnerships and paid posts. Never search alone: Demonstrate product knowledge 🐶 In the tech world, "dogfooding" is a key practice where companies use their own products internally to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality and usability. At Airbnb we embraced dogfooding from the start - even in the early days when hosting and traveling with Airbnb was not that common. I strongly believe that dogfooding not only allows us to spot and address issues early but also connects us to our users. During my job search, I take the time to engage with a potential employer's product even if it requires a small investment. I download and test the product, sign up for a target company’s newsletter and subscribe to their social channels. I interview as many users I know and gather insights on their experience. Going this extra mile not only excites me about the company and its products but also visibly demonstrates my interest and dedication. If your marketing strategy was a travel guide would anyone buy it? About 100 years ago when I left school I spent a year backpacking around South America. And my bible was a hardcover guidebook called The South American Handbook. In ye olde pre internet days you couldn't just Google bus times, or book an Airbnb or Youth Hostel, so this tome of a travel guide lived in my backpack, getting a steadily more grubby and dog-eared as I travelled around. But it was easily one of my essentials as it gave me a plan. I knew where I wanted to get to but I needed a guide to help me get there. So these days I'm a sort of Pinterest handbook for my clients. They want: 🌴 more bookings 🌴 more website traffic 🌴 more potential clients on their email lists And Pinterest can get them there - as long as they've got a plan. That's where I come in.
