Day two at Salon Première Vision was an eye-opener, diving deep into the revolutionary role of technology in tracing product lifecycles. I had the privilege of attending Ben Hanson’s talk on "Tech Tracing the Extended Product Lifecycle," and it was nothing short of inspiring. Ben Hanson kicked off the session with a series of thought-provoking discussions on the burgeoning second-hand market. His insights illuminated the myriad ways brands can pivot and thrive in this evolving landscape. We explored the challenges and opportunities that come with maintaining authenticity, transparency, and value in the second-hand market. As the CEO of ETEOS, a start-up dedicated to certifying and guaranteeing the authenticity, ownership, and status of high-value items, this talk resonated deeply with me. Our mission at ETEOS is to provide a seamless, one-click solution for tracking the entire lifecycle of an object Sebastien from Whysebird talked about scope 3 emissions and their impact on communities. He stressed the need for clarity, trust, and collaboration, and how balancing budgets and egos is key to managing change. Louise Lenglart from Clear Fashion shared insights on product composition and traceability. She highlighted the challenges of industry opacity and the need for transparency and reducing carbon footprints. Anna Rönngard from TextileGenesis explained how industry scandals drive the need for traceability. She showed how being transparent can build brand loyalty and responsible practices. Marie Samba from Vaayu discussed the environmental impact of large-scale operations. She emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in washing, repairing, and managing the lifecycle of clothing. Hasna Kourda from Save Your Wardrobe highlighted the move from linear to circular models, especially after COVID. She talked about supporting local communities, preserving the environment, and using digital passports to keep customer relationships strong. These talks showed that transparency and sustainability are essential in fashion.
