In our first keynote session of the day, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of the Coronation Capital took to the stage to discuss developments in African capital markets. In particular, Aigboje stressed that Africa has been left behind in the prosperity that capital markets have brought to the modern world. He broadly put this down to sub-Saharan African issuers’ struggle to remain competitive on the global stage due to rating agencies’ reluctance to give investment-grade ratings – an unfair disadvantage and likely a mistake on their behalf. Aigboje concluded by calling for improvements in African data and fiscal transparency and the adoption of global investment performance standards by sub-Saharan investment funds to put them on equal footing with international competitors. #ICMAAGM2024 #Brussels #global #Africa #joinus #capitalmarkets #event #csuite

We were thrilled to join the Financial Times at their Africa Summit last week for a day full of insightful discussions on the challenges and opportunities shaping the African continent’s future. Our COO and Partner, Nieros O., shared Verod’s perspective on three critical drivers for sustainable growth in Africa: 🔑 Unlocking local currency funding: The private sector drives economic growth across the continent, but limited access to hard currency poses constraints. Strengthening domestic financial systems is essential to fostering growth from within. 🔑 Embracing regionalisation: Intra-African trade, propelled by the AfCFTA, presents a powerful opportunity—not only to reduce import reliance but to create jobs and expand export markets. 🔑 Good governance: A thriving business environment rests on good governance. Simplifying business registration and promoting transparent regulations are key steps towards building investor confidence. Our sincere thanks to panel moderator Andrew Hill for his insightful questions, and to fellow speakers Odile Renaud-Basso, Dr. Mo Ibrahim, Founder & Chairman, Mo Ibrahim Foundation, Moh Damush, and Max McCabe for their valuable contributions. #FTAfrica #FTLive #AfricaSummit

Reflecting on the recently concluded 2024 Africa Private Capital Association annual conference, I am still struck by the prevailing sense of optimism in the industry in the face of the myriad challenges posed by the macroeconomic environment including geopolitical uncertainties and cautious global capital allocation. Africa's private capital industry clearly remains resilient and its potential for growth strong. I’m honoured to call some of the most significant participants in this sector my clients and thankful that Control Risks was recognized at this prestigious event as a finalist for the Shapeshifter Award which recognised professional services firms that have embraced innovation and implemented client-centric approaches for the benefit of the private capital industry. Onwards and upwards. #duediligence #strategicintelligence #Africa
