Great Project Managers ask great questions during intro calls. Here's 10 questions I was asked last week - brought to you by some of the most talented NYC based Project Managers. 1. How many projects will I be managing simultaneously? 2. How many projects will I manage over the course of a year? 3. Will I be responsible for managing stakeholder relationships or is there an account person who owns that? 4. Will I work closely with a resource manager? 5. Will I be responsible for managing project budgets? 6. Can you describe the team's approval process? 7. Why is working with Mike Mello such a pleasure? 8. How does the team communicate project risk? 9. What PM software does the team use? 10. How does the team deal with scope of work changes and setbacks? Ok, I wasn't actually asked #7 but all the others are true. I said it last week and I'll say it again, the Project Manager candidate pool right now is excellent. Thank you again to everyone who created time to connect. Stay close, we have new projects coming in towards the end of April. Be great ✌🏽 #staffingsolutions #hiring

❓ What's the biggest difference between a Senior Project Manager and a Project Executive? Daily Focus: Senior PM - Project safety, schedule, and profitability Project Exec - Team development, hiring, business goals and success Direct Reports: Senior PM - Project Engineers, Assistant PM/PMs that are assigned to the same project Project Exec - Entire project team Core Traits: Senior PM - Planning, organizing, and controlling a positive outcome Project Exec - Ability to influence and motivate others, alignment and procurement of the right resources, setting the business direction ❓ When do you need a Senior PM vs a Project Exec and how do you know if you promote someone within or hire externally? A Senior PM can manage large, complicated projects and is typically more sucessful within a small to mid-sized organization. A Project Executive is needed when the company has different business units or verticals, needs for customer specializations, and leadership support with multiple project managers. ❓ The question to ask yourself is if your Senior Project Manager is ready and willing to become a great Project Executive: While they may be an amazing Project Manager, do they have a desire to lead others? Have they lead by example historically and focus on the broader needs of the business rather then just their own individual career goals? If you are a Project Manager looking to go down the Project Executive path, focus on understanding the business and leadership traits to successful move the needle with the team and projects. Your head will constantly be on a swivel looking to help fill voids, develop others, and find new business opportunities. As a leader of an organization, hiring a Project Executive externally makes the most since when you are missing skills or knowledge for that specific vertical that your current team does not have. No matter what, these are all good problems to have as your company grows! Keep going, you got this. 💪 #hiringtips #constructionindustry #constructionhiring #successionplanning

This is what hiring a project manager would do for your company {Especially when you hire one as a consultant} →Bring specialized skills to handle complex projects. →Offer short-term commitment that yields long-term results. →Adjust resources as projects evolve, leading to greater scalability. →Provide fresh, objective insights for better solutions. If these are the results you could get from involving a project manager in your projects, why not give it a try? Your company would greatly benefit. Give it some thought and get back to me soon. I’m waiting for your DM. Good morning! Ever had the opinion of an experienced project manager in any of your projects? What was it like? #Projectmanager #Projectmanagement

You shouldn't skip out on hiring a project manager and leave it to the implementation consultant for your Business Central implementation. Been seeing a rise in Project Management opportunities across the channel. Not due to backfills either which shows a healthy start at this time of the year. If you're practice is picking up projects or you're looking at self-implementing, you might want to think twice before only allocating an implementer on the project. One of the biggest reasons that come to mind is efficient decision making and facilitating a smoother workflow of communication. Imagine getting to a meeting and having to think back to what was discussed and determined in the last meeting. Your time and your consultant's time are wasted having to back track on progress. It's a common scenario I come across when an end user either tries to self implement or a practice decides to not allocate a resource like this to the project. If you'd like some guidance on whether it makes sense to hire or contract a Project Manager, my DMs are open!

Program Manager vs Project Coordinator Why? In the past one week I noticed, there are companies who are hiring for Program manager role, but job description explain a Project Coordinator role. It is strange 🤔 But, it shows that every company interpret Best Practices differently. A project coordinator has less authority and power compared with project manager. A program manager orchestrate a group of project which are serving the same strategy goal. Project management is all about clarity, ownership and communication. #projectmanagement

When I started my IT career two decades back, there were no non-technical project managers. Every manager that I had known was a technical project manager meaning senior developers graduated into manager positions. About 10 years into my career I came across the first non-technical project manager, he was working in the same team which also had a technical project manager. The developers always compared them both and needless to say the technical project manager always scored over the non-technical one and he was liked and respected by the whole team. The team hated the non-technical manager because he was not able to guide them technically nor was he able to understand their technical problems. Cut to today we are flooded with non-technical project managers. Some of them try to understand what are the technical issues faced by the team at a high level and help as much as they can but there are some who do not try to understand the technical issues as they do not want to. All they want is things to be delivered and they cannot help much when they do not understand the issues. Such managers are bound to fail when they tell the team members that it is for them to resolve technical issues and it is none of the manager’s (his own) business. Today a distinction is made between a Project manager and a Technical Manager i.e. a Project Manager manages the project and a Technical Manager is a Senior Developer promoted. But if a project manager does not have a technical orientation - he necessarily need not have worked in the technology but if he does not understand technical issues at least at a high level then it is a not desirable position either for the person or for the team.
