I first cut my teeth in non-profit storytelling 5 years ago with the McLindon Family Foundation. We got to tell amazing, often long-form narratives about children with special needs, their families, struggles, and stories of overcoming. It's where I first found my passion for creating stories that aim to heal those who have experienced hardship, while educating and moving audiences to action. So what better way to revive Elevating Impact, than a conversation with Allison Oubre??? Allison has pointed insights about running a non-profit like a business, being hands-on in the work, and how she prevents the dreaded scope creep. Keep your eyes peeled for drops next week. P.S. my interview questions are only 65% as cheesy as this thumbnail 😜 #storytelling #nonprofit #socialimpact #podcast

#WednesdayWisdom is for podcasts, and today's features Janell Robinson, Executive Director of Hope's Front Door 🎙️ ---------------------------------------- Many communities try hard to maintain a facade of prosperity. Yet beneath this affluence, individuals and families struggle with basic needs like food and transportation. How can nonprofit organizations provide immediate relief and empower long-term sustainability? With a rich history in nonprofit and community service, Janell Robinson emphasizes the importance of volunteering locally to address immediate community needs. Nonprofit organizations like Hope’s Front Door can provide direct aid and educational programs on financial literacy, career development, and workforce training. They can also drive policy changes to advocate for affordable housing and healthcare access for underprivileged individuals. By supporting and donating to these organizations and programs, you can amplify community impact and resources. In this episode of the Mission Matters Podcast, Paul Feith welcomes Janell Robinson, the Executive Director of Hope’s Front Door, to talk about how everyone can contribute to society through nonprofit organizations. She explains how small actions can make significant differences, Hope’s Front Door’s service offerings and programs, and how generational philanthropy has influenced her career. In three days, we turn the Known Profit spotlight on the Literacy Center of West Michigan. I had so many misconceptions about this organization until we got the chance to sit down with Wendy, hear her story, and learn more about the mission of the center. One (of many) of my favorite parts during our conversation was about the importance of immigration in the workforce and the labor market. For a topic that often seems tension-filled, Wendy talks about it beautifully: "These folks are of value add to our community on multiple levels, including economic levels. It's very easy to make the case for what we do." Come learn more with us this Monday. Drew Meyers | Jonathan (JR) Roberts #podcast #KnownProfits #community #nonprofit

Ever been so focused on catching up that you never get to look forward? It's real easy for businesses, government, and nonprofits to become trapped in a state of constant responsiveness and lose sight of the many opportunities to proactively shape their future. This is true at the individual level, too. Routines are valuable for maintaining stability and consistency, but not so much when they create barriers to our adaptability and innovation. Focusing solely on problems keeps us stuck in them - again, also true at a personal level. It's super helpful to bring in an outside perspective to identify the roots of a responsive rut, and help us get out of it. In the latest episode of my podcast, Carol Hamilton shares her approach for helping #nonprofits do just that. Carol brings over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and helps organizations take a step back and reenvision their values, and act on a strategic path to move from a state of responsiveness to one of proactiveness. Check out our latest episode of The Nonprofit Lab to learn more about how Carol delivers this transformation in perspective and action through her work supporting nonprofits at Grace Social Sector Consulting, LLC. 🎧 Link to the episode in the comments! #NonprofitLeadership #ChangeManagement #StrategicPlanning #Adaptability

Weekend #pod pt 2 alert! ICYMI, Karen Graham and Carolyn Woodard had a fascinating discussion on being a Learning Organization in our June Webinar. If you are struggling with managing the things your nonprofit knows, it may be a tool problem or having enough personnel problem or a priority problem. Solving the underlying problem will help your organization learn more from what you know. We know #learning organizations are very successful in the #nonprofit sector. #nonprofitleadership #nonprofitexcellence #nonprofitmanagement #peopleareimportant #investinlearning #lifelonglearning Thanks Buzzsprout for the soundbite!
