Should you offer pilot projects, or trials, or test projects? I go back and forth on this one. We’ve done them a lot at EditorNinja. We’ve also had times where we didn’t offer them, and just had a 30 day money back guarantee. Ultimately, I like the guarantee the most and it’s what we do. Why? Someone who is willing to accept a 30-day guarantee is the kind of person you want to work with. You can also onboard them into your regular service and give them the full experience. As long as your onboarding sets them up for success, you’re golden. Very few if any will ask for a refund or to cancel. But if you offer a “test,” they’re much less engaged. They’ll give more of a “try it out” vibe and not fully engage. This doesn’t set them or you up for success. Once your service is solid and onboarding is dialed, I recommend that you only offer money back guarantees (with stipulations like X work requests and feedback was given and you had the chance to make it right) and not test projects.
