This isn't exactly ground-breaking news... but Co-operative UK is a co-operative. So, like all the #coops that enjoy the benefits membership brings, we work to satisfy the needs of our members. We work together for the benefit of our community and to ensure the sustainable success of our organisation. One of the most significant ways our members can contribute to our shared vision is by actively participating in our Annual General Meeting (AGM) - taking place in Birmingham on 14 June. Here’s why attending the AGM is so important: Voice Your Opinion 🎤 The AGM is your platform to express views and share ideas. It's a chance to influence the direction of Co-operatives UK and ensure your voice is heard. Stay Informed 📚 Attending our AGM keeps you up-to-date with the developments, financial performance, and strategic plans of Co-operatives UK. Being well-informed helps you make better decisions as a member. Foster Community 🌟 The AGM is a unique opportunity to connect with other members, share experiences, and strengthen the bonds within our community. Collaboration and mutual support are at the heart of the co-operative spirit... and as our AGM is held during Co-op Congress (the UK's biggest co-operative conference), there's even more opportunity to foster community. Accountability and Transparency 📊 The AGM promotes accountability and transparency by allowing members to review reports, ask questions, and hold our leadership accountable for their actions and decisions over the past year. Celebrate Achievements 🎉 It’s also a time to celebrate our collective achievements and success. So... what are we saying? Well, we're saying that participation makes a difference. And we'd love to see as many of our members in Birmingham on Friday 14 June as possible. But if you can't make it in person, you can still attend remotely. Attending remotely allows you to participate in exactly the same way as if you were in the room. Here's an important bit. To take part online you must sign up before noon on Thursday 6 June (a week today). Just follow this link (it's really easy to sign up): https://buff.ly/4bjliky #Cooperative #AGM #CommunityEngagement #MemberParticipation #CooperativeSuccess

** Reflecting on the DRBF Regional Conference in The Hague ** What a day to remember! From the very first session to the final discussions, the conference was packed with practical insights, engaging debates, and plenty of moments that left me inspired and energised. The day kicked off with a fantastic warm-up led by Arent van Wassenaer and his panel members, Wolfgang Breyer, James Perry, and myself. It was an honour to contribute to a discussion that set the tone perfectly for the rest of the day. (Photo shows participant's responses to the question "What springs to mind when thinking of DABs" from this session) This was followed by a remarkable panel featuring both the employer and contractor of a project. Hearing their experiences with their Dispute Board—each from their unique perspective—was truly eye-opening. It highlighted how both sides benefit when the DB process is approached with transparency and collaboration. The subsequent panels continued to deliver value, packed with practical experiences, learning curves, and actionable insights. These sessions brought theory to life in ways that were directly applicable to our work. Even the environment added its own unique touch. While the room was admittedly a bit chilly due to some heating challenges, it didn’t cool down the energy and focus of the participants. In fact, the warmth of the discussions and the genuine engagement in the room more than made up for it. No laptops, no distractions—just fully focused professionals, sharing ideas and diving into meaningful conversations. It’s rare to see this kind of attention at conferences, and it added to the richness of the experience. A big thank you to the organisers Arent van Wassenaer & Ann Russo from Dispute Resolution Board Foundation for putting together such a well-structured and interactive event. If you missed it this time, don’t make the same mistake next time—it’s absolutely worth being part of! #DisputeAvoidance #DisputeBoards #DisputeResolution #DRBF

This is for my arts and cultural organizations. 🎭 🎨 🖼 Have you considered private events and venue rentals as a source of earned revenue? Last month in Florida, DeSantis cut $32 million in funding for the arts (see article in comments). As all arts and culture organizations navigate financial sustainability, exploring alternative revenue streams becomes crucial. Offering your venue for private events not only generates income but also fosters community engagement and introduces new audiences to your mission. Let's discuss how integrating private events and venue rentals can bolster your organization's financial health and community impact. Together, we can expand opportunities for your organization to thrive. Does your not-for-profit rent their venues for revenue driving events? #sales #revenue #artsandculture

On Nov 1, 2017 I set out to do something "small" and it turned into something "big." I formalized what is now the Orchestrated Connecting Community I'd built over the prior 1.5 years into what I call a Purposeful Community, and 140 sold-out events later in 10 cities, this is a global community seen as an ethically and outcome-driven network of networks. On Oct 14th (evening) and Oct 15th (full day) in New York City, I'm proud to launch my first Orchestrated Conference focusing on the interaction of AI, Mental Health, Health and Wellness, Sports, Patriotism, and Community in many shapes and forms! There are many ways to hold an amazing conference, and many of my friends do an incredible job with theirs. I just want a different outcome, as I have proven with our more intimate Gatherings. I'm tired of standing in hallways to maximize the value of attending, when what I want is curated conversations with other attendees that aren't speed dating or random, but intentional. I don't want to spend 95% of my time being talked at--- I want to interact, to collaborate and to feel valued for my time. I also want to know what I'm eating before I attend, who is going, and that I have to be fully present for the day in order to be accepted to come. This isn’t a conference with some famous person speaking who draws you in but then leaves out the back door. Finally, I want the outcome of my time to be more than 2-3 hopefully positive, substantial conversations. Honestly I'd like that number to be 10+ and for this conference we're aiming for 25 each person. If you're connected to me, and want to learn more and apply, click the link below, it tells you almost everything. Please write me if you want to apply or nominate someone, and learn more! https://lnkd.in/eEdQce_i

April 25 - 27, 2025 Call for Presenters As a member of the Organizing Committee for the 2025 Association of Kootenay & Boundary Local Governments (AKBLG) Convention I wanted to share to those that might be interested that the committee is accepting proposals for presentations. We are interested in presenting our membership with perspectives not only from individuals with prior experience working in Local Governments, but also business owners, community members at large and organizations within our communities that collaborate and benefit from strong Local Government leadership. Over 100 local elected officials from throughout the Kootenay & Boundary Areas will gather in-person in Kimberley, BC to participate in value-added learning and to respectfully debate policy proposals within local and Provincial jurisdiction. The 2025 Convention theme is: Strengthening Our Foundations ‘Foundation’ is multifaceted, encompassing everything from the literal, structural elements of our built and natural environments, to the core values and relationships that shape one’s ethos. Similarly, strengthening can take many forms depending on the circumstances – whether it’s through renewal and revitalization, making strategic investments, or simply pausing to reflect and reassess. It is the Organizing Committee’s hope that the 2025 theme will inspire you to envision a presentation that provokes collective thought, discussion, and action within those attending. Our delegates want insights and plans forward that are applicable to the Kootenay-Boundary region. The following are some topic areas that will be considered within the theme: ● Fostering community support / public engagement for local initiatives; ● Elected official leadership development – building one’s best self for their community; ● First Nations awareness, reconciliation, and partnership; ● Green infrastructure (including natural and built assets) investment and management; ● Investment attraction and sector development; ● Growing with intention / approaches to complete communities; and, ● Augmenting the local government advocacy toolkit for extrajurisdictional effect. Preference will be given to presentation topics that are dynamic, engaging, interactive, and informative, and feature best practices in Local Government. Be sure to provide a description of the vision to be gleaned from your session with recommended action for providing resiliency, sustainability and growth over-time. Proposals and inquiries should be forwarded to Andrea Tubbs, Convention Coordinator at conventioncoord@akblg.ca or 250.688.0189 Proposals to be completed and be received by 5:00pm Mountain: Monday, November 18 2024
