Another successful edition of the #AccentureMediaFuturecast wrapped up this weekend. We had the privilege of engaging with prominent leaders and innovators in the M&E industry. I was honored to moderate a 90-minute roundtable on "What If Content Could Lead to Positively Addictive Experiences?", featuring diverse insights from six distinguished thought leaders across various M&E segments: Anil Jayaraj, Your unique perspective on the interchangeable sequence of the content-community-commerce lifecycle was thought-provoking. We got enlightened by your views on appointed/scheduled content being a community builder and making content addictive. Also, I look forward to meeting you again to discuss more on our mutual fandom for the Lakers and NBA. Jignesh Kenia, Your views on attention span being directly proportional to the screen size were quite insightful, especially highlighting the rise of UGC. Mandar Thakur, It was fascinating to learn that emotional connection still remains the addictive quality of music, in contrast to other M&E segments where addiction is driven by platform features. Vikram Chande, Your emphasis on the stronger negative feedback loop becoming a challenge in building positive addictive experiences was enlightening, along with contextual content and platform tech being potential media addiction drivers. Jayesh Pandey, Thank you for highlighting that digital fatigue is real, and that diversifying into offline events & community building initiatives might be key to crafting compelling experiences. It's truly remarkable that Hashtag Orange is celebrating its sixth year of growth and achievement. The idea to establish this brand initially emerged from my background in finance, and I must confess, I harbored doubts about my ability to do so. However, I've always recognized that my strength lies in collaboration, and I've consistently relied on working closely with others to achieve success. Unfortunately, not all collaborations proved fruitful, and I encountered numerous challenges. Nevertheless, the idea of building a brand always motivated me to persevere and make things happen. in 2018, the journey of Hashtag Orange began with a vision and passion that have propelled us through every obstacle and challenge. From the very beginning, we faced adversity, including the unexpected curveball of the COVID-19 pandemic striking during our third year of operations. It was a time of immense struggle, with rumours circulating in the market that Hashtag Orange might not survive the financial crisis. At one point, all key employees of Hashtag Orange resigned, and it seemed that everyone was under the fear that Hashtag Orange had no future. However, my unwavering dream continued to drive me towards success and has led is to where we are now - 100+ employee partners across offices in Gurgaon, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Hong Kong. I have always maintained an unwavering belief in our mission. Despite stumbling along the way, we picked ourselves up with renewed energy and determination. I am deeply grateful to all our clients, partners, and employees who stood by us during our darkest moments, believing in both me and the vision of Hashtag Orange. Their trust has played a pivotal role in building our brand, and today, we confidently stride along the path of success. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been a part of our journey. An Ogilvy Outreach memory! This story about Supriya Das (Supriya Da) popped into my head today morning, reminding me of his unique management philosophy. It happened back in 1999, when I was a rookie manager at Ogilvy Kolkata. As a new manager, I was ready to fire a teammate for underperformance. I presented the case to Supriya (Da), my manager at the time. His response was a turning point for me. He said, "Any manager can work with good people, but a good manager can get the best out of even worst ones." His words challenged me to recognize that by wanting to fire this teammate, I was acting like an "average" manager, someone who could only handle only performers. Supriya Da pushed me further. He said, "If you truly believe you're a good manager, you'll work with this person and help him improve." That lesson stuck with me. It was one of many valuable insights Supriya Da imparted over the years. As I recollect, Ogilvy Outreach has been the true business school for me with great mentors like Supriya Das, Sandip Bansal, Dwipal (DK) Bose, Dalveer Singh, Nirmallya Roy Chowdhury all imparting insights and knowledge which has remained with me over quarter of a century. #Ogilvy #OgilvyOutreach #RuralMarketing #PerformanceManagement
