#ReflectReviewReposition - work lessons from outside work (things that really should be top of mind anyway)… This year I heard someone say that before putting up holiday decorations they first take down normal decorations so things look cleaner, less cluttered and so the holiday decorations have pride of place! How had I never thought of this before - how simple!! It made me think of work and how easy it is just to say yes to one more thing without first clearing something out (or at least re-prioritising). Then yes to just one more etc… I’m guilty of this, and know that overwhelm is the almost inevitable result. I’ve got (slightly) better over time, but can always, always do with a reminder. So, just in case you’d also benefit from a reminder - here it is! Image - our side board having been cleared first - meant there was space for the advent calendars that usually end up cluttering up the kitchen sides! A small win, and seeing it makes me smile, and serves as a reminder!

The Little Bits Matter   I needed to put up all the Christmas decorations (don’t panic; this was back in December).   We stored the decorations in the upstairs closet beside my office. I decided that every day or so, I would take one of the boxes of decorations downstairs when I went downstairs for something. I would put out those decorations before I would bring down another box.   Little bit by little bit, the house got decorated. There was no stress. There was no strain. There was no overwhelm.   I did it one trip at a time, one box at a time, and one decoration at a time.   It worked so well I repeated the process to put the decorations away.   And then I discovered that you could apply the Little Bit Process to all manner of tasks (except for laundry which my husband demands be done in one go so he gets to do the laundry his way – I’m nice like that).   Do you have something big standing in your way? Read one little bit today (my husband reads two chapters in the morning and two at night on Mon through Wed, taking Sunday off). Do you want to run a marathon?
