🙌🤔Breaking the Myth: Apprentices Are Not Lazy 🤔🙌 I often hear the misconception that apprentices are lazy and don’t work hard. This couldn’t be further from the truth. In my experience, apprentices are some of the most dedicated and hardworking individuals in the workforce. Why? Because they understand the unique opportunity they’ve been given. Apprenticeships are an investment in their future, and they are keenly aware of the trust and resources their employers are placing in them. This motivates them to prove their worth, learn rapidly, and contribute meaningfully. It’s not just about the salary for today’s workforce. People are driven by environments where they are trusted, invested in, and managed effectively. When apprentices feel valued and supported, they bring their best selves to work every day. This week is all about recruitment. While I often find myself wondering why hiring practices can feel so outdated, it also gets me thinking about one of the biggest issues in our industry: the shortage of skilled tradespeople. I read recently that the CITB estimates the UK will need an additional 250,000 tradespeople by 2028—a staggering figure that underlines the urgency of building a sustainable workforce. I’m incredibly proud of our apprenticeship programme and thrilled to be expanding it next year. We’re taking a strategic approach by pairing apprentices with experienced technicians nearing retirement, ensuring that we retain and pass on valuable knowledge and skills. Another key focus for us in the coming year will be supporting Tradeswomen Into Maintenance to help diversify our workforce and better reflect the communities we serve. 📖 NATIONAL CAREERS WEEK 📖 As it's Careers Week I thought I'd share some success my learners have had in their careers over the past year after completing their apprenticeships. First up we have the wonderful 🌟Ewan 🌟 "It's not an exaggeration to say that doing the apprenticeship changed my life. As a 24 Year old Male, working in childcare had always been a pipe dream that I never really knew how to make a reality. Taking on the apprenticeship opened up an entire career path that I never anticipated being able to actually achieve. HIT Training gave me all the knowledge I needed to take in whilst gaining real experience in an early years environment. As each training session passed I could feel my understanding of my job role, the EYFS and the setting itself getting clearer, and it showed with my work! My confidence grew, something that not only I noticed, but the other staff, the parents, and even the children! As I reached the end of my course, I had the opportunity to apply for the Deputy Manager role in my setting, a role I only felt suitable for after completing the entire course. I'm now approaching a year since completing my course, and am halfway through my second term as Deputy, in the first job that I've ever truly adored. If it wasn't for this apprenticeship, I would not have had the chance to get here. There is nothing I can endorse higher than working in childcare, and an apprenticeship is the perfect place to start."
