The growth of global capability centers (#gcc ) has been remarkable in recent times. In the beginning, multinational companies (MNCs) set up offshore facilities to manage their low-value business processes. This offshoring was done to primarily gain a cost advantage. They looked for places where cheap, educated, and skilled labour pools were available to set up these offshore facilities. These facilities then evolved into shared service centers for research and development, human resources (HR) management, innovation, and business transformation. But in recent times, MNCs have focused on setting up GCCs. These are world-class centers of excellence that help MNC lead their digital transformation strategies led by innovation and technology. New competencies and capabilities are developed, nurtured, and scaled up in these centers.
Last Wednesday, we did a full page on GCCs on #TimesTechies, because Nasscom’s estimates for 2023-24 suggested that for the first time ever, #GCCs would be hiring more than the IT services sector, which for years had been India’s biggest hirer of white-collar professionals. While IT services headcounts have been generally trending down in the past few quarters, a newly released #Zinnov report estimates that net hiring in GCCs rose by 12.9% in calendar year 2023, on top of the 1.7 million employees the segment had at the end of 2022, implying a net addition of 2.1 lakh employees last year. Viswanathan K S of #Nasscom says GCCs have become the mainstay for the Indian tech industry. Ramkumar Ramamoorthy, former MD of Cognizant India, says if one were to rank the top 200 technology companies, including GCCs, in India by employee count, more than 150 of them could be GCCs. He says there are dozens of GCCs that have more than 10,000 employees each. Lalit Ahuja, founder & CEO of ANSR, says never in ANSR’s history has it seen so many GCCs coming in with clear mandates of hiring 10,000 people. Pari Natarajan, CEO & Co-founder of Zinnov, says some GCCs are creating a new product innovation playbook from India. Indeed, every #GCC we meet now talks about innovating out of India, and helping transform their parent companies. We had previously written, based on Zinnov estimates, that there are some 5,000 global leaders sitting out of India GCCs. Ahuja says this is the “true” Make-in-India story: “You can make iPhones or Teslas here. But more than that, we are now the seat of power, the intellectual leadership, for some of the largest global enterprises, helping them get ready for tomorrow.” #india #exports #hiring

💥Microsoft Expands in India with Second Pune Land Acquisition💥 💫Hinjewadi continues to attract major investments from global tech players, making it a prime location for Microsoft's expansion. 💫Microsoft has acquired a land parcel in Pune's Hinjewadi for Rs 453 crore, bolstering its presence in India. 💫In August, the company secured 66,415 sq-mt (16.4 acre) land parcels of the highest worth of approximately Rs 520 crore, in the same locality. 💫India's strong talent pool, maturing infrastructure, and favorable government policies make it an attractive market for tech expansion. 💫As a result, tech giants have the most lucrative geography to invest in where they get resources from creation to consumption. 💫Capital investment by tech giants in land and buildings often turns out to be a source of confidence in the appreciation of real estate, unlike in other countries. 💫Moreover, the government’s push to digitize land records is streamlining land acquisition processes and speeding up approvals, thus boosting global confidence in India. 💫Against the backdrop, India is now becoming a prime destination for international firms to set up operations through long-term capital commitments. Last Thursday, I met with the HCLSoftware public sector team in Delhi. It was great to hear from Dhruv Kohli about their perspective on India's market as a strategic growth opportunity and to gain insights into their GTM strategy in the country. India's public sector is driving #DigitalTransformation like never before, with #Ministries, #Central and #StateGovernments (States like #UttarPradesh, #Maharashtra, and #TamilNadu are some noteworthy examples), and especially #PSUs leading the way. Post-pandemic digitalization has turned public sector organizations into #InnovationHubs, driving numerous government-led initiatives. Programs like #DigitalIndia and #DigitalPublicInfrastructure demonstrate how technology can meet citizens' needs on a large scale. Indian Government agencies are also making significant investments in mission-critical tech projects. A special thanks to Anusha Kaul for organizing and leading these insightful discussions. All in all, a great meeting! Anurag Agarwal SUKHENDU R. IDC Asia/Pacific IDC | India

India is rapidly emerging as the go-to destination for Global Capability Centers (GCCs), attracting interest from Fortune 500 giants and a growing number of mid-sized companies. The country's cost advantages, skilled workforce, and stable business climate are driving this surge. In just the past eight months, several mid-sized GCCs, with 1,000-2,000 employees, have set up shop in India, joining the ranks of larger corporations that now employ 10,000-15,000 staff here. These centers are handling a wide array of functions, from customer support and data analysis to cutting-edge R&D. Notable new entrants include Flutter Entertainment , Hy-Vee Inc., ChampionX, Neighborly, @Blackbox, Okta, and Indus Pharma. With India’s GCCs evolving beyond traditional BPO and KPO models, they are now becoming hubs of innovation, further fueling the demand for office space in key tech cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad, which account for 60% of all GCC leasing activity since 2021. 👉 Read more to discover why India is becoming the epicenter for global business operations and what this means for the future of GCCs. https://lnkd.in/gTXwizcR #IndiaGCC #GlobalExpansion #Fortune500 #MidSizedCompanies #BusinessGrowth #Innovation #RealEstate #Bengaluru #Hyderabad #EconomicGrowth

India's Employment Giants: Who Runs the Numbers Game? Plot twist: The Ministry of Defence employs more people than Google, Meta, and Apple combined! Turns out, Big Tech isn’t the ruler of the employment world after all. 🌏 Here’s a fun fact from a recent tech conference: I casually mentioned that TCS employs more people than the entire population of Luxembourg. A Silicon Valley exec nearly dropped his $8 artisanal coffee and mumbled, “But… but… we’re the tech capital!” 😅 Let’s break down the stats behind India’s employment supremacy: 🎖️ Ministry of Defence: 29.92L (a workforce that rivals some countries) 🚂 Indian Railways: 12.13L (probably the world’s busiest ticket counter) 💻 TCS: 6.02L (that’s enough programmers to debug the metaverse!) 📬 India Post: 4.30L (delivering far more than just your online shopping) The global contrast: While Big Tech abroad is busy announcing layoffs, Indian giants are adding more employees than the population of small European nations! 🎭 Here’s the kicker: My NRI cousin once bragged about his Silicon Valley job. I pointed out that Infosys employs more people than his entire tech park. His comeback? “But… but… we have better coffee!” 🤷♂️☕ And the ultimate stat: Even if you combine TCS, Reliance, and Infosys, their workforce is still smaller than Indian Railways! Talk about running a tight operation—or should we say, train? 🚅 So, who will dominate employment by 2030? A) Ministry of Defence (the reigning champ) B) A tech behemoth like TCS 2.0 C) A unicorn startup we haven’t met yet D) Robot overlords (kidding… we think 🤖) What’s your prediction? And if you’ve worked at any of these giants, drop your favorite “this one time at work” story below! #IndiaJobs #FutureOfWork #EmploymentTrends #CorporateInsights
