It takes all of us to make an impact on closing the #digital divide. In our latest edition of the reWerk Impact Blog, we cover how corporations can play an important role in making a positive change. The digital divide – the gap between those with access to technology and the internet and those without – is more than an inconvenience; it’s a barrier to opportunity. But there is hope, and part of the solution lies with partnering across business and community lines to solve problems or the people that need it the most. https://lnkd.in/ggqRZXbB

We need to design resilient services. Services that will work for future users, in tomorrow’s world. To achieve that, we need to consider the political, economic, identity, social, environmental crises. And potential futures. One of my favourite #ToolTuesday is scenario planning, which I learnt from Valerie Carr 🔎 The aim isn’t to predict the future. But to use the scenarios to explore what might affect your company. I did these exercises in the first few days of the first lockdown, and some interesting topics came up: 📈 Inflation could become an issue and how it might affect our #PublicSector clients with Simon Smith 👩🏼⚕️ Capturing the experiences of front-line staff to create long-term support for what would be no doubt very traumatic experiences with Rebecca Squirrell I did it recently with a client in financial services asking us about future technology disruptions. 🤝 Amidst the technology discussions, the criticality of building trust with customers and in the whole system arose - with Orla Parry The approach is well documented online but here is my take on it. Steps: 1️⃣ Brainstorm the challenges that your organisation, sector, area are facing. 2️⃣ Select the 2 challenges that might potentially have the greatest impact Examples: Public funding, people’s attitudes to digital 3️⃣ Determine the 2 extremes for each of these challenges Examples: For a charity - public funding increases massively vs. public funding disappears completely. For a digital service - people rebel against technology and go back to pre-tech days vs. technology replaces human contact everywhere. Don’t worry about how realistic these extremes are. 4️⃣ Take a large sheet of paper, draw a cross in the middle and place each of the extremes at one end (see photo). 5️⃣ Explore the scenarios in each quadrant. E.g., what would happen if we had all the public funding we wanted at a time when technology replaces human contact everywhere? Give it a try and tell me what you think. Put your business where your values are.
🌍 Imagine a world where all stakeholders — not just shareholders — are valued and prioritized. At B Lab, we believe this world is possible. Since 2006, we've been championing the idea that business can be a force for good. Today, the #BCorp movement stands poised to lead like never before, with momentum across sectors and societies for systemic change. Through our tools, programs, and policy efforts, we're changing the behavior, structure, and culture of capitalism to create an economy where business serves both profit and purpose. Here's how: 🔄 Behavior: B Lab’s tools and programs, like the B Impact Assessment, help businesses manage and improve their social and environmental impact, increasing transparency. By adopting stakeholder governance models and measuring impact, businesses not only make a direct positive impact but also set a standard for others to follow. 🏛️ Structure: By advocating for policies rooted in our standards and stakeholder governance model, we help rewrite the rules of the game. In 2023, our community mobilized for policy changes in countries like Argentina, Australia, the EU, Spain, Switzerland, the US, and the UK. These changes are crucial because it raises the bar for all companies, therefore achieving the scale of impact needed for systemic change. 🌐 Culture: As a global movement, we unite people to share the success stories of B Corps worldwide, demonstrating that a new way of doing business is not just a future possibility but a present reality. Curious to see the impact we've made? Read our 2023 report to discover more, and stay tuned as we delve into each area in more detail in upcoming posts: https://bit.ly/3Uv8z7n #BCorpMovement #StakeholderGovernance #SustainableBusiness #BusinessforGood

Many of you have asked me over the past few months what I've been up to lately. The simple answer is "a lot of things." Honestly though, it's been a lot of really exciting things (more to come on those later)! Today I'm thrilled to announce the launch of our new nonprofit brand, 35 Mile Foundation, powering social justice through digital equity. Want to learn more? Check out this message from our Executive Director, Adam Miller or reach out - I'll be happy to fill you in! Don't forget to follow us on LinkedIn for updates and news! #digitalequity #digitalinclusion #socialjustice
A note from our Executive Director, Adam Miller: "I’m excited to share some terrific news with you. After several months spent getting our primary building blocks in place, we’re excited to announce that we’re stepping fully onto the stage in the digital equity sector. Since mid-2023 we’ve been operating under a transitional name, Denver Area Educational Telecommunications Consortium (DAETC). As an organization wishing to be laser focused on digital equity, our current name was too limiting given these aspirations. Today, I’m pleased to announce that we have formalized our positioning with a new name that aligns with our goals, scale, and ambitions: 35 Mile Foundation. This is a big step forward for us. Until now, we’ve been operating in a liminal space between who we were and who we wanted to be. With our new name and visual identity in place, we’re ready to take a larger role in narrowing the digital divide, seeking social justice, and empowering people to equitably participate in today’s society. Our overarching goal is simple — to make it easier for people around the world to fully participate in the digital world. I invite you to learn about us at www.35mile.org!"
