Additive manufacturing, commonly referred to as 3D printing, uses slicing methods to slice a three-dimensional object into a series of two-dimensional layers. There are two types of slicing methods: uniform and adaptive. Uniform slicing is a simple and fast method that involves slicing an object into layers with equal thickness. This method is suitable for situations where speed is more important than accuracy or when the object is geometrically simple. Adaptive slicing is a more complex method that involves slicing an object into layers with unequal thicknesses in different layers. This method is used when accuracy and precision are critical or when the object has complex geometries that require more precise fabrication. Studies have shown that adaptive slicing can result in parts with higher accuracy and shorter building times compared to uniform slicing. However, it is also a more resource-intensive process and can take longer to generate the necessary toolpath data.

“I do not see metal AM fully succeeding if it does not ultimately find a way to go into machine shops.” Context ⤵️ Lukas Hoppe of Meltio said that when discussing the impact of integrating 3D printing into existing production environments, such as a machine shop. Specifically, he referenced the M600 metal 3D printer that he finds conducive to production in coordination with CNC machines due to its use of probing, quick-change workholding and wire material stock. More about this workflow here: https://lnkd.in/gRDa-9MS Also in article: Manuel Jesus Calvache Trillo, who explains three challenges machining businesses routinely confront and how 3D printing can intercede. _________ #additivemanufacturing #3Dprinting #metal3Dprinting #DED #CNC #CNCmachining

We're excited about #FreeformInjectionMolding, and you should be, too! This is a new process which is a hybrid of additive manufacturing [aka 3D printing] and injection molding where you get the benefits of both. This will excite you if you're testing multiple part designs or making parts with complex geometries, in particular...take a look! 👀 👇 #plasticinjectionmolding #3dprinting #dissolvablemolds #3dprintedmolds #moldtooling #injectionmoldingprocess #injectionmold

Although 3d printing has been around for years, STILL many haven't considered it as an excellent solution to build hundreds or sometimes, thousands of parts. More commonly referred to as Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM) you can skip traditional methods all together. Because we offer nylon material, it's as close as you can get to injection molding (without the molds). CNC machining is preferred when material properties, strength and surface finish are paramount, especially for larger volumes. On the other hand, 3D printing is ideal for quickly producing prototypes with complex geometries, fast iterations, and low volume production requirements. By understanding the factors discussed in this article, you can decide which techniques are best suited to your specific project needs. #cncmachining #3dprinting #projectneed #manufacturing
