"In 2001, at the age of 16 I relocated to Australia from South Africa. I spent my first few years adapting to a new way of life, making friends, and finishing high school, before jetting off on a gap year (only to stay away for 3 years instead). On returning to Australia, I stumbled around for a little while trying to figure out what I wanted to do before securing a role at CommBank. I have worked here for almost 15 years and what I enjoy most about my job are the people I work with every day. The friendships I have made with so many from all walks of life has enriched my life. I am proud to be a steering committee member of AdvantAge, one of CommBank’s six employee-led networks, whose purpose is to create an age-inclusive workforce that represents the communities we serve. Embracing age diversity fosters an environment where innovation flourishes, respect is paramount, and everyone feels valued. Together, we are committed to creating a space where all voices are heard, and everyone has the opportunity to contribute and grow. To me, diversity and inclusion means assuming less about people and treating others the way you would like to be treated. It means my nephews growing up in a world that sees everyone as equal. I would like to see everyone be a little bolder in their conversations about diversity and inclusion. Until we speak openly about the challenges and inconsistencies, we cannot fix them. When I’m not working, I enjoy reading and spending time with family and friends. I like to dedicate my time equally between myself and those I love."
