Join us for the Community Care Gathering on Tuesday, November 12th at 6:00 PM at the Fourth Plain Community Commons—a space created to hold, honor, and strengthen our community. As you allow yourself to feel today, remember that rest, collective care, and mutual aid are all forms of resistance. We recognize the wide range of emotions many of us may be feeling right now and the deep questions that this moment brings about the future of our communities, our values, and the work we are called to do. In the face of these challenges, let’s come together to reflect, support, and rise with one another. Together, we will process, strategize, and reaffirm our commitment to justice, equity, and progress. 🗓️ Date: Tuesday, Nov. 12th 🕕 Time: 6:00 - 7:30 PM 📍 Location: Fourth Plain Community Commons, 3101 E 4th Plain Blvd Ste.101, Vancouver, WA 98661 Let’s continue to lift each other up and move forward—stronger together. #CommunityCare #TogetherWeHeal #BIPOCUnity #ResilienceAndStrength #JusticeAndEquity

Today, while being led by a few colleagues, I had the privilege of sitting with six individuals who are currently unhoused to hear their stories and understand the journeys that led to their current situations. These conversations will help support some of Allegheny County housing initiatives, aiming to make a meaningful impact on providing housing for those in need in our community. Listening to these experiences reinforced the need to approach each person with empathy and break down the stereotypes that often cloud our understanding. Being unhoused isn’t just a lack of shelter—it’s often the result of relentless challenges people face, mixed with systemic barriers that don’t account for everyone’s unique circumstances. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to these struggles, yet resilience shines through each story. Let’s commit to a deeper understanding of the hardships people experience. Together, we can build communities that uplift rather than overlook. To learn more about Allegheny County’s 500 in 500 program, visit https://lnkd.in/eYdUqBAq

Being the Program Director of Renewal House in Danbury is an impactful experience. Hope for the hopeless. Vision for those without vision. I always tell the residents of Renewal House, “There is safety in a multitude of good counsel.” Often, this good counsel comes from community-based services. In short, I am fulfilling my calling by helping those who have been beaten down by life’s circumstances. That they are not alone, that there is hope and vision for their future. It’s an honor to do this work, hard as it often is. We serve a diverse group of people: engineers, mothers, fathers, grandparents, individuals with early onset dementia, former business owners, and former homeowners. We encounter tragedies, losses, natural disasters, recovering addicts, and domestic violence victims. These are the people we serve. There is no fanfare in being the Program Director. No accolades or compensation can match the effort required to make a difference between merely surviving and truly thriving. The work involves advocating for housing, benefits, therapy, medical services, fostering community, and bringing laughter. Any experienced person can do that. But it’s a gift and an honor to impart hope, healing, vision, peace, and peace of mind; that’s what I get to do! Helping people so they can restore their lives and independence and believe in themselves again. May their latter years be greater than their former. ‘One life at a time.’ Maria Russo, Renewal House Program Director #CommunityCare #HopeAndHealing #RenewalHouse #ServingOthers #MakingADifference

Hey PDX HSP Community, During this month of the colonial holiday of Thanksgiving, we are thinking about how the work of PDX HSP interrelates with calls for repair from the Indigenous Land Back movement. So for our next community event we are grateful to be hosting Jillene Joseph, enrolled member of the Gros Ventre or Aaniiih people, and board member of the Future Generations Collaborative (FGC). We are very excited that Jillene will be hosting us at and sharing about Barbie’s Village, a land back transfer of the former Laurelhurst Presbyterian Church building and the property it sits on. FGC uses the building as a community hub and is developing a tiny home village on the property for houseless Native parents with small children. Where: Barbie’s Village, 935 NE 33rd Ave When: Tuesday, Nov. 26, 7:00–8:30 pm If you plan to attend, please click the link in our bio to RSVP . Light snacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided. Feel free to bring outside food. This will be a masks optional event. We ask that you stay home if you are experiencing any abnormal symptoms. For more info about PDX HSP, check out our website in the link in our bio. #pdxhousingsolidarityproject #pdx #portland #oregon #black #indigenous #community #allies #reparations #homebuying #firsttimehomebuyer #housing #pdxhsp #events #resources #blackcommunity #indigenouscommunity #nativeamerican #africanamerican #families

Helping Others in the Best Way We Can: The Power of Community In life, one of the most rewarding experiences is the ability to help others in the best way we can. Whether it’s offering a listening ear, lending a hand, or sharing knowledge, the act of helping not only benefits those we assist but also enriches our own lives. It’s a way to connect, to give back, and to make the world a little brighter for someone else. But true help often goes beyond just a single act. It’s about creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and understood. This is where the power of community comes in. Being part of a great community means surrounding ourselves with people who are there for us, just as we are there for them. It’s about building relationships that are based on trust, empathy, and a shared sense of purpose. In a strong community, the act of helping becomes a collective effort. We all bring our unique strengths and perspectives, and together, we create something greater than the sum of its parts. Whether it’s a neighborhood, a workplace, or a group of like-minded individuals, a thriving community is one where everyone is empowered to contribute and where support is always available. Helping others and being part of a great community go hand in hand. When we give our best to those around us, we help to build a community that is resilient, compassionate, and capable of achieving great things. And in turn, this community supports us, helping us to grow, learn, and become the best version of ourselves. So, let’s continue to help each other in the best way we can and cherish the communities we’re part of. Together, we can make a difference that lasts a lifetime.
