We see you nonprofit people. Even though our event planning days may be behind us, we know that events play a role in fundraising and our nonprofit community. Maybe you are gearing up for your biggest gala yet... you have the committee assembled, the meetings scheduled, and all the emails about themes hitting your inbox! Before someone tries to convince you that what your event really needs to standout is a Ferris Wheel (we actually heard that one!) 😳 we wanted to share with you this podcast featuring Seth Godin and his new platform Goodbids. This platform challenges nonprofits to innovate how they fundraise at auctions and galas. Hopefully, it will inspire you to consider something new so you aren't stuck in the cycle of "the way we've always done it." It's time to think big and different, and evolve your processes!  Cheers to you, the fundraisers, making it all happen (selling sponsorships, hiring the band, soliciting auction items, inspiring a committee, managing invite lists..) and looking amazing in your cocktail attire... 💃 P.S. (Please please please don't forget to factor in your staff and volunteer time and energy as you evaluate the cost of the events you are doing. Someone you admire has approached you to join the board of a nonprofit organization. This experience can bolster your resume, expand your network and give you warm and fuzzy feelings for doing good. You want to enthusiastically agree. Before you do, take some time to consider what you’re signing up to do. Board service requires a significant time commitment, and often annual contributions. You’ll also have a legal duty to act in the organization’s best interest. This is easy enough when things are going well, but can be a heavy weight when there is a crisis such as an executive transition, legal issues, a PR nightmare or a financial deficit. For small and new nonprofits, board service may also include helping out with ongoing operations, such as fundraising, marketing or volunteer management. If you’re considering joining a board, check out “Introduction to being a Nonprofit Board Member” on the Grow & Lead Youtube channel. This 30-minute video covers the legal duties and roles of boards. Board service is a meaningful way to give back, but it isn’t necessarily easy. Make sure you are prepared for this journey before you accept. P.S.
