New York is the latest city to legalize building tiny homes to help with the housing crisis. California was actually one of the first groups to test out this theory! Here's what tiny home owners have learned... The property value increased and most homeowners were able to charge either long term or short term tenants to rent out the space. Other use cases for the tiny homes were for family members that needed their own space, but maybe something a little smaller. Regulation and permitting for ADU's is a little trickier than standard housing, but it could be the difference between a substantial amount of money... https://lnkd.in/gwSG9g2q

Seeking to solve some of the housing needs in Cache Valley, Logan Municipal Council is discussing changing the amendments on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU's) and Short-Term Rentals (STR's) in Logan. Encouraging ADU's and less STR's. The reinforcement of less STR's is tabled till next meeting in OCT 2024. If the change passed there will be a possible increase to the number of remodeled single family homes to allow for more renters. But this might still increase STR units. https://lnkd.in/gijhHrCp

California is experiencing a historic population decline, closely tied to challenges in its housing supply chain. While various efforts have been made to address the state’s housing crisis, progress has been slow. The reality remains that countless barriers—permitting delays, rising costs, design limitations, and sustainability challenges—persist and are often overlooked or dismissed. Whether you're building a large structure or a small shed, the process is fraught with stress. Is it simply because demand far exceeds supply that these issues are left unresolved? If we could make the process of building a home easier, faster, and more enjoyable, wouldn’t more people consider installing ADUs? https://lnkd.in/eS8VbABv #joyobi #nostresshome #nostresshomes

I feel a shifting tide happening (largely being driven by the state's goal for starter homes)... Now is the time for cities to look at zoning changes that allow and promote missing middle housing that is geared towards single family living (i.e. small lot, cottage court homes). I believe this is key to solving our housing crisis and introducing a much needed product type to the market! We certainly can't solve it with single family homes being built status quo. #housing #housingcrisis #missingmiddle #cottagecourts https://lnkd.in/gB--CZgg

Super grateful to the The Salt Lake Tribune for publishing my op-ed today on how developing public land won’t solve Utah’s housing crisis. Utah's housing crisis is a complex challenge that requires innovative, community-driven solutions, and allowing wealthy developers to privatize more of our public lands is not a good plan. Our natural spaces are more than just scenic views; they are vital to our well-being, our ecosystem, and our identity as a state. In my op-ed, I touch on: - The false promise of affordable housing through the development of public lands. - The irreplaceable value of our natural spaces for mental and physical health. - The need for alternative solutions like loosening restrictive regulations on accessory dwelling units and allowing homeowners to rent out parts of their homes. Let's protect our public lands and work together to create a housing market that benefits all Utahns. Now is the time to stand for sustainable growth that honors both our heritage and our future. Thank you again to the Tribune for providing a platform to discuss these issues. https://lnkd.in/gbZz5VQw #RealEstate #UtahRealEstate #PublicLand
Opinion: I’m a real estate agent. Developing public land won’t solve Utah’s housing crisis.

Cities in California are losing jurisdictions for their housing plans revoked. As California addresses the housing crisis, they are encouraging most cities to rezone areas to allow for more density building to address the state housing crisis. What does this mean? More opportunities for developers to buy land and rezone/build multiple houses on lots, townhomes, condos, apartments, etc. PM to discuss opportunities for development where you live in what is becoming a wave of opportunity for investors in real estate https://lnkd.in/gTRbUWBB

Are you thinking of building a tiny home on your property? California is the best state for tiny homes! California is the most highly populated state in the country, which means that demand is almost always significantly outweighing supply when it comes to real estate. Tiny houses can increase housing opportunities even in areas where it may seem like those opportunities just aren't there. Laws passed in California in recent years have made it easier for residents to opt for a tiny home. The new laws, such as SB13, AB68, AB881, and AB670 that went into effect in 2020, have made building a second tiny home on almost any residential property easier, faster, and more affordable than ever before. Tiny homes have enjoyed a surge in popularity as home buyers search for affordable places to live, and property experts say that California is the best place to buy one. Tiny homes, which typically measure around 100 to 400 square feet, have been a popular solution for those looking for a simpler lifestyle with lower costs and reduced environmental impact. Just over half of Americans (53 percent) would consider living in a property that is 600 square feet or smaller, according to a survey by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The rising value of homes and rents across California has been making it increasingly easier for homeowners to finance the construction of tiny homes, offering affordable housing options to individuals, couples and families around the state. Recent laws have made building a second, tiny home on almost any residential property easier, faster and more affordable than ever before. The state’s diverse landscape and favorable climate create an ideal setting for tiny homes with solar power, blending urban convenience with eco-friendly natural beauty. #realtorfranny #sacramento #lovewhereyoulive #tinyhome #investment #inlaws #income #rental #airbnb #vacation

From Alex Horowitz of Pew Housing Policy Initiative on the housing supply shortage: “So restrictive zoning is the primary culprit. It's made it hard to build homes in the areas where there are jobs. And so that has created an immense housing shortage. And each home is getting bid up, whether it's a rental or whether it's a home to buy.” This holds true across Pennsylania. Let’s fix it through zoning reform and re-legalize missing middle housing types. #housingsupply #pahousingchoices https://lnkd.in/gUC954Mi
