Aberdeen’s Glacier Energy acquires Teesside firm in #hydrogen storage push Aberdeen-headquartered Glacier Energy has acquired a Teesside #fabrication business as part of a push to strengthen its #hydrogen storage and distribution offering. Glacier said the acquisition of Francis Brown will take its group head count to over 300, as the company continues efforts to double in size by 2028. Established in 1903, Francis Brown manufactures #pressurevessels and structural fabrications. The company specialises in construction for the #oil and #gas, #chemical, #construction, #nuclear, #defence and #renewable #energy sectors. In April, Francis Brown gained specialist hydrogen and carbon capture accreditation through a pilot programme funded by the Zero Carbon Humber partnership. Following the acquisition, Glacier said the company will now create a larger manufacturing division across two locations in Stockton-on-Tees and Rotherham. The move will allow the company to support “strategic sustainable energy projects and growing manufacturing requirements”, Glacier said. Glacier Energy chief executive officer Scott Martin said Francis Brown “aligns perfectly” with the company’s plans to increase its capacity and capabilities in Teesside. “We look forward to integrating their excellent team to realise significant opportunities ahead and building the strong relationships we have already established,” Martin said. Jamie Brown of Francis Brown said the company is looking forward to an “exciting next step” with Glacier. “Extensive discussions with Glacier Energy in advance of the acquisition underlined how aligned we were, both in terms of the potential opportunity ahead, but also in terms of our respective cultures,” Brown said. The investment follows the acquisition of Glacier earlier this year by Averroes Capital, with BGF set to take a minority stake in the company following its growth and expansion into the #renewables market. Glacier and BGF did not disclose the value of the investment, but BGF generally provides initial investments between £1m and £20m according to its website. Glacier said the investment will allow it to continue the “rapid growth” it has achieved over the last two years by investing in additional #manufacturing capacity. The firm will also establish a technician training academy as it looks to double its headcount over the next four years. Glacier currently employs 220 staff plus 20 contractors, with the majority based in the UK across locations including Aberdeen, Glasgow, Fife, Rotherham and Blyth, with an additional office in Kazakhstan. Glacier serves a range of markets including wind, #oil and #gas, #nuclear and #chemicals, but is looking increasingly towards energy transition sectors such as #hydrogen, leveraging its specialisms in heat transfer, #machining, #welding and testing and inspection.

POWERHOUSE ENERGY GROUP PLC (AIM:PHE), the cleantech company, said it could see a significant revenue bump next year thanks to its new ventures in Australia, it revealed on Monday. National Hydrogen Australia signed a five-year framework deal with Powerhouse back in February, with the latter agreeing to provide its technology and engineering expertise. This partnership is expected to bring a front-end engineering design contract sometime this year, while also providing the potential for “significant revenue opportunities”. Looking forward, National Hydrogen plans to roll out multiple hydrogen projects across countries like Italy, Switzerland and Hong Kong. Instead of Powerhouse providing capital for these projects, the group will work with the Australian company through a license fee and royalty model. David Hitchcock, chairman, said: "The period under review has seen us re-assess where the focus of the business... More at #Proactive #ProactiveInvestors http://ow.ly/oJTg105vlTf

Onboarding: The next generation of Low Carbon Solutions talent In this ongoing series, we meet some of the newest talent working in the energy transition at Low Carbon Solutions. Introducing Collin Gaskill, a business development advisor focused on hydrogen. His current role in one sentence: Dedicated to creating a new marketplace for low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives in hard-to-abate industries, Collin is focused on the U.S. Gulf Coast. Why he chose Low Carbon Solutions: “I’m excited to be in hydrogen – it’s a new space for the company and this is the frontier of the energy transition outside of renewable electricity. The pieces aren’t set, and you get to shape and influence how that market is going to develop and how ExxonMobil fits into that.” What has surprised Collin since arriving in October 2023? “It’s a pleasant surprise, but I was surprised by the volume of resources the company is putting behind this – the sheer number of people being onboarded, and the number of projects being looked at in different disciplines, like carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, and lithium.” What advice does Collin have for someone considering joining Low Carbon Solutions? “It's hard work and there’s a lot to be done in a short period of time, so anyone considering joining should be ready for that. But the work is exciting and fun. Every day is different, with new things coming up by the hour.” Two adjectives Collin uses to describe his new role: “Dynamic and complex – but not in a bad way. This is figuring out new ways of business, working with new customers, and navigating changes on the policy side.” Interested in joining Collin to be at the epicenter of delivering real world progress?
