🌊 Unlocking the Science of Sediment Transport in Open Channels 🌊 In environmental modeling, precision matters—and when it comes to simulating sediment transport, choosing the right turbulence model can make all the difference. In our latest blog, we dive deep into a comparative study of three turbulence models—k-ε, k-ω, and MY2.5—using EFDC+ 12. Here's what we explored: 🔍 How these models influence bed shear stress and total suspended solids (TSS) 🌊 The scenarios where each model shines 📊 The implications of these findings for sediment transport accuracy Spoiler alert: The k-ω model exhibited the highest shear stress and TSS, making it particularly impactful in certain applications, while MY2.5 demonstrated a more conservative approach. If you’re working in hydrodynamics, sediment transport, or water quality modeling, this analysis is for you. 🔗 Read the full study and gain insights into the practical applications of turbulence models: https://lnkd.in/gVwMY56Z Let's advance the field of environmental modeling together! 💡 #WaterResourcesEngineer #Abstract #Conference #ModelingExcellence #EFDC #WaterQualityModeling #CyanobacteriaResearch #EnvironmentalScience #ModelingTechniques #EEModelingSystem #WaterEcosystems #EnvironmentalEngineering #AquaticEcology #ScienceInnovation #WaterManagement #EnvironmentalModeling #FluidDynamics #EcologicalResearch #WaterResearch #Consulting #WaterResources #WaterManagement #HydrologyConsulting #EnvironmentalEngineering #SustainableWater #WaterConservation #Hydrogeology #WaterInfrastructure #WaterQuality #ClimateResilience #WaterEngineering #HydraulicEngineering #FloodRiskManagement #StormwaterManagement #WaterSupplySystems #WaterTreatment #RiverRestoration #WatershedManagement #ResilientInfrastructure #ErosionControl #EEMS #Engineer #Engineering #Research #WaterResources

The approximate HLL Riemann solver for the classical shallow water (Saint-Venant) equations 🌊 Harten, Lax, and van Leer introduced a method to approximately solve the Riemann problem, specifically aimed at computing the Godunov flux. The key concept of this approach involves assuming a solution configuration that consists of two waves dividing three constant states. 📖 Here is the link to my publication about the Fluctuation splitting Riemann solver for a non-conservative modeling of shear shallow water flow https://lnkd.in/gRF7TntS #cfd #fluiddynamics #hydraulics #engineering #computing #scientificcomputing

Hello from Oxford 👋 This week our Transparent Ocean Research Fellow Md Junayed Hasan, PhD is attending the Twentieth International Conference on Condition Monitoring and Asset Management organised by The British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) in partnership with the International Society for Condition Monitoring 👷🏽 and the US Society for Machinery Failure Prevention Technology (MFPT)⚙️ Junayed gave a talk on ‘Explainable Graph Net for Pipeline Fault Inspection: Why this is the right time to pay attention to it.’ 📈 His proposed method utilises a publicly available pipeline monitoring dataset which comprises AE signals to train and evaluate the GCN-based model. This approach can potentially establish a new standard in pipeline monitoring research and applications. #PipelineMonitoring #MachineLearning #IndustryLedResearch

Today, a new article featuring GHEtool has been published in the proceedings of the 18th International Building Simulation Conference (#BS2023) of IBPSA World, titled: 'Evaluation of the oversizing and computational speed of different open-source borefield sizing methods'. Key findings include: -All methodologies result in an oversized borefield, highlighting the importance of considering the thermal inertia of the borehole. -Hourly sizing methodologies tend to offer higher accuracy but are significantly slower, by an order of magnitude. -Accurately estimating the peak duration is crucial for correct sizing when the borefield reaches the maximum fluid temperature in its first year of operation. We would like to thank the authors Wouter Peere, Louis Hermans, wim boydens and Lieve Helsen for this interesting article. Special thanks to Louis for presenting this article at the conference last September. You can find the article here (it is freely available!): https://lnkd.in/eNwwJfHF

Ongoing advances in structural and geotechnical engineering and increasing expectations for fidelity and refinement of seismic analysis models have resulted in a computational bottleneck in the design and evaluation of critical infrastructure. The traditional Soil Structure Interaction (SSI) framework, System for Analysis of Soil Structure Interaction (SASSI), is a trusted analysis approach with decades of precedence. Our proprietary SSI analysis software, SC-SASSI, incorporates modern enhanced solution algorithms that drastically reduce analysis run-time. In his article, Julio A. Garcia, P.E. demonstrates the practical benefits of SC-SASSI and High-Performance Computing, which result in improved accuracy, reduced uncertainty, and shorter computational times. Examples include: - Structure-Soil-Structure Interactions (SSSI) - Probabilistic SSI Analysis - Ground Motion Incoherence - Industrial Facilities on Pile Foundations To learn more about how SI is advancing the science of utilizing high-performance computing in the critical infrastructure industry, check out our article in the News & Views 54th edition below. https://lnkd.in/eRzWKTwJ #PoweredByTandT #NewsAndViews #HighPerformanceComputing #SINEWS

This letter investigates and validates a #proper #selection of #medium #dimensions that maintains a tradeoff across the accuracy and computational complexity of creating synthetic data. The results of this study are critical to researchers who adopt gprMax or any #finite #difference #time #domain (#FDTD)-#oriented emulations for soil subsurface assessment. To maintain a tradeoff between accuracy and complexity, the letter confirms that the #minimum #medium #surface dimension should be in the order of 1.5 times the maximum wavelength.----Noushin Khosravi Largani, Seyed (Reza) Zekavat, Himan Namdari More details can be found at this link: https://lnkd.in/gita8Yw8
