The absence or outdated documentation can lead to various issues, including dealing with undocumented or poorly documented applications or services. There are also cases when the original team that worked on the application has moved on or left the #project as the development halted, leaving behind a lack of comprehensive documentation. Sometimes there have been attempt to attempt and decomission the appliacations or perhaps turn off all services associated and you are left with inactive pipelines. All of these scenarios directly impact #finances, wasting resources on maintaining unnecessary infrastructure and data storage. Moreover, in today's world, prioritizing #sustainability is crucial, and needlessly storing terabytes of unused data has detrimental effects on the #environment. This talk will serve as the story and lessons learned from managing a legacy #application decommissioning task, focusing on both #infrastructure and #codebase. We'll explore the technical steps required and the importance of documentation, which, if properly maintained from the outset, could have #prevented many of #challenges introduced. Abstract: Get to know OpenTelemetry and understand why it is needed in the tech landscape. Learn about the options you have to bring it into your tech stack on AWS, based on different approaches that try to answer most of the typical architectural "it depends". Finally, I'd like to discuss the flexibility it brings to your technology and business.
