The NHS Innovation Ecosystem Programme report is now available. The report focusses on how the NHS can work with wider health innovation and research partner organisations to better enable research, innovation development, and the adoption and spread of innovation in the NHS. Its recommendations focus on setting clear national priorities and funding, standardising innovation processes and guidance to give more support for local leaders, building workforce capabilities and sharing best practices across the system. The report describes a pipeline of innovations emerging that could address many of the NHS challenges and enable big shifts to prevention, personalisation and the workforce of the future. However, to realise the full potential of technology it urges urgent action to grow and build effective partnership between the NHS and suppliers so that patients and service users’ needs are met now and into the future. WHO Report - Innovation Health Technologies for Low Resource Settings. The key actions counties should take and the potential benefits: 1. Use the WHO Compendium of Innovative Health Technologies for Low-Resource Settings to identify suitable technologies for their local context: - The Compendium bridges the gap by listing technologies specifically designed for low-resource health environments. - This empowers stakeholders to make evidence-informed decisions on adopting technologies that can enhance the quality of healthcare and improve health outcomes. 2. Assess the suitability of the technologies based on factors like effectiveness, safety, regulatory compliance, ease of maintenance and use: - The assessment reports provided in the Compendium can help counties determine the appropriateness of the technologies for their local setting. - This can lead to the adoption of technologies that are well-suited to the county's needs and resources. 3. Collaborate with stakeholders to find solutions suitable for the low-resource setting: - The Compendium encourages collaboration among stakeholders to identify solutions that work for low-resource environments. - This can contribute to advancing healthcare equity through increased access to appropriate health technologies. 4. Explore the potential for local production and technology transfer: - The Compendium provides guidance on evaluating the appropriateness of local production and the feasibility of technology transfer. - This can help counties build their own capacity to manufacture or maintain the technologies, ensuring long-term sustainability and availability. By leveraging the information and guidance provided in the WHO Compendium, counties can make informed decisions, adopt suitable technologies, and collaborate with stakeholders to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes in their low-resource settings.

Todays report from the Innovation Ecosystem Programme (IEP) outlines ways the NHS can further develop and implement innovations in healthcare. There is an opportunity to embed the report’s recommendations into the forthcoming 10-year health plan, they include: Building skills, capabilities and culture and unlocking time the help the NHS workforce prepare for future ways of working. Developing commercial approaches to share value and adoption in testing innovation. Building robust evaluations to assess the impact of innovations. The aim of this competition is to provide a package of targeted support to enable ambitious UK registered micro and small businesses to develop highly innovative ideas that have a clear route to commercialisation and business growth. Your project must use the funding to help to grow your innovation activities in the health technologies cluster in West Yorkshire, both during and after the project.
