I have long advocated the enormous opportunity to lower emissions and improve quality of life through the built environment. The data are confirming this, with GHG reductions coming from materials, construction processes, demolition and of course a building’s use, whether it is a home, office, hospital, recreational facility, school or place of worship. To me, this is where climate action lives. We all have a stake and we can all reap benefits (lower costs, better health by reducing toxic exposure, thermal comfort as our climate changes). Time to get serious about a comprehensive approach to decarbonising buildings!
#DidYouKnow that in Europe, buildings are responsible for 36% of all carbon emissions? What if we can change that? Our partner The World Green Building Council is working to cut down emissions from buildings across Europe with their project #BuildingLife by helping implement decarbonisation roadmaps across 12 European countries. 🙌 We’re proud to be supporting this powerful initiative - watch the video below to see what WGBC has achieved so far 👇 #PeopleAndPlanet #ClimateSolutions #ClimateChange #Impact #BuiltEnvironment

🚀 Excited to Share IKEA Foundation's Third Impact Video! Thrilled to unveil our latest one-minute visual story, designed to highlight the incredible impact of our partners. This isn’t just a video—it’s storytelling with purpose, wrapped in the IKEA Foundation's core value of togetherness. Here’s a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how we turned data into a narrative that resonates: 1. Collaborated with our Measurement, Learning, and Evaluation (MEL) team to identify the partner and analyse KPIs for showcasing impact. 2. Crafted a compelling storyline, balancing insights with emotion, co-created with the partner and the Programmes team. 3. Combined B-roll footage, interview, graphics, and sound—beautifully brought to life by our partner and our creative agency. 4. Kept the process collaborative, with feedback loops involving MEL, Comms, Programmes, and our partner. For me, this project is about blending the art of storytelling with data-driven impact—and turning it into a shareable asset that inspires action. 🌍 A huge shoutout to Ly Verveld-Nguyen, Prateek Diwan, Edgar Van de Brug, Liz McKeon, Marilia Bezerra, Carolina Sierra Gonzalez, World Green Building Council, and Stupid Studio for their passion and teamwork in making this happen. 💛 #Storytelling #Impact #Togetherness #IKEAFoundation #DataDrivenNarratives

# collapse climate Now the world is going from climate change to climate collapse. But fortunately, we still have some time to prevent the world from collapsing.Buildings are the best, cheapest and fastest factor to prevent climate collapse. The progress of using new energies and rechargeable batteries is slow.By innovating in the technology of heating and cooling systems, which has a significant contribution (40%) in energy consumption in the building, we have achieved a reduction in energy consumption demand. #ClimateWeekNYC is underway and key #Cemex executives are there, participating in forums, roundtables, and panels with other climate leaders that share our commitment to taking immediate action to accelerate the path towards a net-zero future. On Wednesday, we’re hosting a panel titled “Circularity in the Built Environment” featuring William McDonough, architect and globally recognized leader in sustainable development and design, Joe Murphy, Executive Lead at Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and our CEO Fernando Gonzalez-Olivieri. The built environment plays a significant role in addressing climate change, as buildings account for about 40% of global energy consumption and contribute heavily to carbon emissions. By adopting energy-efficient designs, using renewable energy, and incorporating sustainable materials like lower-carbon concrete and recycled resources, the construction industry can contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change. We’re excited to work alongside our partners and customers to be at the forefront of a more circular and lower-carbon industry. Stay tuned for more news of our participation at Climate Week NYC! #FutureInAction #CircularEconomy #BuildingABetterFuture

The 2024 World Green Building Week focuses on "Building the Transition" with three essential strategies to accelerate a sustainable built environment. Reduce by decreasing energy and resource use today for a more efficient future. Electrify by shifting to electricity now to move towards a zero-carbon future. Adapt by changing our actions today to build a more resilient future. These transitions are key to advancing progress and enhancing sustainability. #BuildingTheTransition #WGBW24

🌍 Nationally Determined Contributions for Sustainable, Inclusive Buildings and Cooling: Time for Bold Action This session will empower policymakers and stakeholders to develop ambitious, actionable, and inclusive Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for the buildings and cooling sectors. Building on the insights shared during the fireside chat, the panel discussion will focus on practical recommendations from key initiatives designed to support the creation of impactful NDCs. The session will feature the launch of Partnership for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (PEEB)/UNEP’s GlobalABC guidelines, which offer a step-by-step approach and a range of policy options to help policymakers ensure their NDCs are ambitious, actionable, investable, and inclusive. The World Green Building Council will present its Sustainable Buildings Scorecard and Action Plan for NDCs and Policies, a tool designed to align national and local policies with NDC ambitions while identifying policy gaps. The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) will provide insights on making NDCs fundable from an investor’s perspective, while Habitat for Humanity International will highlight its paper "Informality and Housing in NDCs," emphasizing the importance of addressing informal settlements in NDC strategies. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges countries face in designing NDCs and explore tools and policy briefs that can help raise ambitions and drive climate finance toward a zero-emissions, efficient, resilient, and inclusive buildings and construction sector. This session offers actionable insights to enhance the development and implementation of NDCs that address both environmental and social priorities. 🎙️ Speakers include: Gulnara Roll, Abdelmuti Murad, Kennedy Matheka, Alice Bond, Hugh Garnett, Lanre Shasore, Nigel Tonks, Gregor Sahler, Hassen El Agrebi (Agence Nationale pour la Maîtrise de l'Energie ANME) 📅 Discover the full agenda and join us live with the streaming link here: https://lnkd.in/dyZcKtQu 👉 For directions, schedules, and more, visit the Pavilion page: https://lnkd.in/ew6ZwyGS We look forward to seeing you at the Buildings and Cooling Pavilion! #ActOnCooling #BuildForClimate #COP29
