Unfortunately, there has been a setback to sustainability reporting standards in the EU. This 2 year postponement affects large non-EU companies operating within the EU, slowing global efforts to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development. Although this is disappointing news, we are not giving up! There is still much sustainability reporting work to be done, and Green Econome remains as committed as ever. #SustainabilityReporting #EU #ESRS #SustainableBiz #ESG #GreenEconome

The Commission has worked with international standard setters to ensure that the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) have a high degree of alignment with international ones. EFRAG and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) have today published joint guidance on the interoperability between the European and international standards, with a particular focus on climate reporting. This guidance shows that EU companies reporting under European standards can comply with the global ones with minimal additional effort, reflecting the Commission’s commitment to minimising the reporting burden on companies. Mairead McGuinness, Commissioner for Financial Services, Financial Stability and Capital Markets Union, said: “Climate change is a global challenge. I welcome today’s guidance that recognises the Commission’s sensible approach to sustainability reporting, and a commitment to ensuring a very high degree of alignment between EU and international sustainability reporting standards. It is important that reporting frameworks in different jurisdictions are interoperable with each other to reduce the reporting burden for EU companies.” The first companies in the scope of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will report against the ESRS in 2025 for financial year 2024. 🌿 Just returned from the CDP 2024 Disclosure Workshop in Brussels. It was an incredibly enriching experience! 🌿 🌍 The sessions highlighted increasing CDP disclosures, showing more companies are stepping up to disclose their environmental impact, which is incredibly encouraging. A key point raised was the lag in nature-related disclosures compared to climate disclosures, emphasizing the need to close this gap. 🤝 Connecting with peers and industry experts highlighted both the challenges and opportunities in disclosure practices. Transparency is crucial as it builds trust, enhances accountability, and drives positive change. 🌱 Eager to apply these learnings and move forward on our sustainability journey! #CDP #Sustainability #ClimateAction #ESG #CorporateResponsibility #EnvironmentalImpact
