Every time I hear that yet another family member is in the hospital for a condition that could be managed with diet and lifestyle changes, my heart aches. I come from a very loving family with many extended members, and I want to see them all live long, healthy lives. Sadly, some already haven't been so fortunate. Many of my family members struggle with diabetes, heart conditions, autoimmune diseases, obesity, and more. The majority rely on multiple medications to manage these conditions. Amazingly, my parents are the exceptions—they made significant diet and lifestyle changes and have seen remarkable improvements in their health. My mom went from being pre-diabetic to having normal blood sugar levels, and my dad experienced similar positive changes. Just today, I received news that another family member is hospitalized, fighting extremely high blood sugar and an infection in her spleen. She's only in her early 60s, and it breaks my heart to see her suffer. The updates I receive aren't just about her; they often include other loved ones dealing with increased medication dosages and worsening conditions. Yet, no one mentions diet or lifestyle changes as a solution. These hospital stays should be a wake-up call—a signal to do something drastically different for the sake of our health. But for many, these changes were never modeled, and they may not even know where to begin. As leaders, change makers, and visionaries, we have the power to break this cycle, yes for our children, but also for our elders. It’s up to us to spark a health revolution within our families and communities. Many of us are fortunate to be heavily exposed to information that was not available to our parents when they were younger, so in a way, we are responsible for leading them too. The message they likely heard is that many health conditions can be managed but not healed or reversed. They are living in accordance with a story that may feel pretty hard to change, and yet, it can be done. It’s up to us to show them how. Yes, we are modeling for the younger generations, but we can also model for the elderly. Let’s not teach that change is dependent on age. Together, we can create a future where our loved ones thrive, not just survive. 🌱💪✨ #HealthRevolution #LifestyleChange #FamilyWellness #HolisticHealth #EmpowerChange #LeadByExample #WellnessJourney #HealthyLiving #InspireAction

Living with diabetes doesn't mean sacrificing a vibrant and fulfilling life as we age. In fact, it's quite the opposite. With the right tools, mindset, and support, individuals can navigate the golden years with grace and vitality. Treating diabetes requires a holistic approach to care, especially as we age. In my experience, it is essential to address the emotional well-being of older adults living with this condition, as coping with the demands of diabetes - whether seemingly sudden or having been weathered for decades - can at times feel overwhelming. As we recognize Older Americans Month, let’s continue to champion healthy aging with diabetes through support and resources to minimize disease burden and live a healthy life. #OlderAmericansMonth #Diabetes #PatientFirst

Last year, was a tough one for me. I lost my mother back in July and dealing with it, is not something very easy, no matter when it happens. The support that I got from my manager and my colleagues was overwhelming, and it really helped me allot. The official cause of death was stroke, and my mother was one of the 5 million people worldwide who died from this, last year. Moreover, to put this thing in context, 5 million more people were left permanently disabled. But in retrospect, thinking about my mother health, something was missing from the doctor report. The sedentary lifestyle she had. Choosing a book over a long walk, was her choice always. But why can't we do both? We tend to use the argument that time is a scarce resource, nowadays, to avoid or postpone doing some things or tasks. But time is something very easy to find. How much time on average do you think a person spends on social media? The typical user spends about 2.5 hours per day on social media, according to DataReportal. If we do one hour exercise per day, and one hour reading a book, we still have 30 minutes left for social media.I know that New Year's resolutions are typically set starting in January, but concerning health, is never too late. So let's read a book and do some exercise! 😊 https://lnkd.in/eBJ9hUz4. https://lnkd.in/ej32SBsa. a%20time.
