There are ways to reduce default patterns of other-ing people of a different race on Uber and elsewhere… You could turn to 1. the intergroup contact effect where deep immersion with someone who isn’t typical of how you spend time with changes your attitude about them and the groups they are part of - 2. change the information that Uber drivers and passengers see - giving greater attention to what matters. The thing about safety is that you can never really be done doing that work. It's something that you need to keep working on because there is almost always room for improvement. The subject of safety itself is serious - even anxiety-inducing for some and Uber's safety features like real-time GPS tracking, phone-number anonymisation, SOS-integration or ride-check can sound technical. Lyft doesn't offer the Amp device or bonus referrals in the Greater Boston Area yet, but the platform brand does accept immigrant drivers carrying international drivers' licenses to start training and familiarizing themselves on driving rideshare/carpool/by-the-way/short-distance rental taxi/cab service automobiles/cars of various types (gasoline, diesel, kerosene, electric, hybrid, limos, trucks, vans, sedans, etc.) for transporting cargos/passengers on land via automobile roads. I would presume there are similar mobile apps out there for water and air based cargos/passengers transport operators of boats/ships/vessels and planes/aircrafts carrying international licenses, but it would be a much smaller niche market demand with lower frequency and much less customers with lower quantity. The user experiences of two applications made me think… Incident one: I haven’t used Uber for rides for a while. When I used it a few days ago, I was confused about the tips. I wasn’t sure whether I successfully tipped the driver, and so I ended up double tipping: the driver got almost 50% of the fare for tips. What the Uber did was a single tap will trigger the tipping… Incident two: I haven’t cleaned up my Hotmail account for a while. Access it via Safari and it took me to click three times in order to delete one single email… What do you think? How about two? Not one, not three?
