As a fundraiser, one of the biggest parts of my job is connecting with others. But I have a little secret: I’m not great at remembering names. I can see someone across the room and KNOW that I know them. Then a name pops into my head, and I think, "Nope, that's definitely not their name." Now the wrong name is stuck in a loop, and I’m walking up to them anyway, praying the right name will surface. Ever been there? This makes me reflect on the best ways to engage in big, crowded situations. Enter the name tag. Think about it: how awkward is it to approach someone you know you’ve met before, only to draw a blank when trying to recall their name? I know I’m not alone in this. Whenever I admit my struggles with name recall, people respond with, “Oh my gosh! Me too!” It’s normal, it’s common, and it’s definitely solvable. So, let’s embrace the name tag at these events and spare someone else the discomfort of trying to fish your name from their memory. Then we can dive into the real connections!

Calendars are the best way to plan and organise upcoming events, campaigns and social media content. It will give you an overview of upcoming Markers Days (eg. Children's Day, World Aids Day, etc.) It can be organised in the form of a spreadsheet or Google calendar Identify the Marker Days that align with your organisation. Example - if your NGO works for Children then mark days like World Day Against Child Labour, Girl Child Day, Children's Day, etc. in your calendar. Direct mail pet peeves. 😩 Lack of personalization, spelling mistakes, data merge errors, poor choice of photography, no audience segmentation, too much text, lack of good design... these are just a few things I picked up on with only three of the many spring campaign letters I received at home in the last couple of months. I wish more organizations would reach out to get help. 👤Client: Four Corners Group Inc. - an organization on a mission to restore hope for youth in crisis 🎯 Challenge: To support their mission, Four Corners Group Inc required a fundraiser but encountered challenges in outreach, planning, and venue management. Abstract Elements began by engaging in bi-weekly meetings and providing comprehensive event planning services. These included: • Community engagement • Theme and design creation • Registration management • Talent management • Silent auction planning and oversight • Venue, food and beverage management • Event logistics and timeline management We curated a cohesive theme to celebrate the royalty that lies within all who attended. Additionally, Abstract Elements facilitated overall budget management and provided marketing strategies/ ideas to increase awareness and ticket sales. 🏆 Results: The King & Queen Sneakerball was a success, raising over $8k through fundraising donations and it exceeded attendance goal with over 150 attendees.
