As a young person I always want to receive instant results like just blink and see results But today, I had the privilege of joining a powerful session led by Nyamekye (Yah-MEH-chay) Wilson , CEO of Black Sisters in STEM . It was an eye-opening discussion on how energy, mindset, and generosity shape our lives. One key takeaway was the idea that what you give comes back. Whether it’s your time, effort, or knowledge, the universe rewards those who give freely. It's a reminder that success is tied not only to what we achieve but also to how we lift others along the way. I was also encouraged to understand that life reflects our actions. If I want more positivity or kindness in my life , I must embody those traits myself. Our daily choices influence the reality I experience. Finally, the principle of reaping what you sow was a powerful reminder. The seeds I plant in my career, relationship, and community will determine the harvest we reap in the future. Our Early Career Network Book Club session occurred today at our Hewlett Packard Enterprise office, led by the incredible Delenda Nasfi. We discussed the amazing book "How to Be an Ally" by Melinda Briana Epler ❤️ One of the key takeaways for me is the power of language and how crucial it is to use words that uplift rather than diminish. The words we choose can either reinforce harmful biases or help to break them down, making a real difference in the lives of those around us. Melinda’s book really drives home the importance of addressing microaggressions, both in the workplace and in our everyday lives. It’s not just about recognizing these subtle, often unintentional, slights—it’s about actively standing up against them. We can be allies by calling out microaggressions when we see them, creating a safer and more inclusive space for everyone. "An ally takes action. They work to reduce the unintentional harm of biases and microaggressions, and may begin to intervene and become a champion. They stand up or step back as needed for people with underrepresented identities to have opportunities, gradually increasing their actions over time." We all have the capacity to be better allies by standing up for ourselves and others, addressing biases, and working to create a more equitable environment. This month at The WLA, we’ve been exploring the power of community and contribution and how they shape a more purpose-driven life. Sue led a fantastic Lunch & Learn session, sharing invaluable Lessons from a Life at Sea. She reminded us that just like navigating the ocean, creating a meaningful life requires a strong compass and unwavering resilience. ⚓️ Sandra ran a powerful masterclass into how a purpose-filled life directly impacts well-being, reminding us of the ripple effect that positive contribution can have on both personal and community levels. Here are some additional insights and strategies to foster a life rich in purpose and community: Identify Your Causes: What lights you up? Find a cause that aligns with your values and dedicate time to it. Whether it’s environmental advocacy, education, or supporting local businesses, your impact counts. Build Community Connections: Engage with those around you. Attend local events, volunteer, or simply support a friend’s project. Every connection adds meaning to our shared journey. Reflect Regularly: Check in with yourself to ensure that your contributions align with your evolving goals and values.
