The Victoria Police Department is looking for their next chief. Will it be you? This is a real opportunity to redefine what effective, modern policing leadership looks like, which begs the question: 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗩𝗣𝗗 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗼, 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴? The challenges facing policing today are ingrained in the traditions of the profession itself—issues like cultural inertia, the "us versus them" mindset, and old school approaches to crime control. When senior leaders are selected from within, these patterns tend to persist. Holly Campeau's research supports this: Promoting from within often reinforces the very practices that need reforming. (Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eKKfGYD) So, what’s the alternative? Think outside the box and look beyond traditional pipelines for leadership. An external candidate, untainted by decades of institutional influence, is far more likely to: ✔️ Introduce innovative strategies. ✔️ Promote diversity of thought and experience. ✔️ Tackle cultural challenges with fresh eyes. That's not to say that there aren't strong leaders within the ranks already, but VPD have a unique opportunity to lead by example here by appointing a chief constable who isn’t afraid to disrupt the status quo. Who's ready to lead the future of policing?
The search is on! The Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board invites the interest of progressive senior law enforcement officers who have proven operational and leadership skills to apply to the position of Chief Constable. The Police Board seeks a Chief who is flexible, adaptable, and knows how to navigate change and complexity, and places high value on building and maintaining a meaningful and supportive work environment for sworn and civilian members. The ideal candidate has a reputation inside and outside their respective agency for being an outstanding communicator at all levels and who is known for creating a shared vision within a police service where honesty, integrity and core values are at the forefront. The Police Board seeks a Chief with unquestioned strength of character, respect for the communities and people the Department serves, and an unsurpassed commitment to sworn officers and civilian staff.
