✨This one is for my HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS who care for NICU and preemie families.✨ Sometimes those of us close to the work can fail to see the psychosocial and emotional impact having a preemie and/or NICU baby can have on the baby AND the families. It is not always the nonprofessional. This #givingtuesday, lets GIVE RECOGNITION to our preemie and NICU Parents💜💚👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Preemie/NICU parents are not just caregivers—they are part of the healthcare team. Their unique perspective, resilience, and constant presence make them essential advocates for their babies. As healthcare professionals, we have the incredible opportunity to be supporters, leaders, and guides during one of the hardest journeys a family can face. Recognizing parents’ roles, listening to their concerns, and involving them in decisions can transform their experience—and improve outcomes for their baby. 💡 Remember: - Parents may notice changes before monitors do. - Advocacy isn’t opposition—it’s collaboration. - Encouragement goes a long way: “You’re doing a great job” means the world. When parents feel heard, respected, and supported, they can better care for their baby—and their own well-being. Let’s work together to create a compassionate, inclusive experience for preemie/NICU families.💜 #NICUAwareness #FamilyCenteredCare #CompassionateCare #NICUJourney #ParentAdvocacy #HealthcareLeaders #preemie #nicu #nicumom #nicubaby #preemiemom #nicuparents

Jess Daigle, MD FAAP thank you for your post and raising awareness. In neonatal critical care medicine, I can count on one hand (unfortunately) the new medical interventions that have been shown to improve a newborn's short and long term outcomes. However, maybe the greatest impact on our care has been a change in our "medical team" rounding approach. When I started, now over two decades ago, the "medical team" rounded in a room with a door shut so as not to be disturbed. This team consisted of MDs, students, and NNPs. ⛔ No RNs ⛔No RTs ⛔No Therapists ⛔No Dieticians ⛔No Pharmacists ⛔NO FAMILY MEMBERS Our "medical team" rounded, wrote orders, and expected them to be followed. This "rounding" not surprisingly led to no shared mental model of care, poor communication, an unnecessary and ineffective hierarchy, and a limited perspective of the patient's "real problems" as they could not be identified from a flowsheet, labs, and image results. I think the single best change that we have made at UCHealth neonatal ICU has been the "multi-disciplinary team rounds" that includes family and caregivers. ✅ We now round with caregivers/parents, RNs, RTs, Charge RNs, Pharmacists, Dietitians, MDs at all training levels, NNPs, students (we still need to do a better job of including our therapists) at each patient's bedside. Not surprisingly, communication and a "team approach" (including parents/caregivers) has improved newborn outcomes in our unit and changed the unit culture away from a hierarchy-driven to a more team-focused, patient and family-centered care approach. I still can not believe we used to round as the "medical team" with a shut door. I do remember, as medical director, when I changed this rounding approach how angry my colleagues were --- but now they too would think it would be crazy to revert to our old way of doing things. Family centered care is not just a catch phrase, it is founded on solid reason and positive data (https://lnkd.in/gQjaFeyZ). Families, parents, caregivers ARE the most important care provider--- of loving care in and outside of the NICU. 💜 Thanks. #UsingWhatWeHaveBetter

Spotlight in the link below on Socal early adopters providing Day Habilitation services!
Under CalAIM, managed care plans may offer 14 Community Supports — services not traditionally covered by Medi-Cal that address social needs. Some of these services, like housing navigation, have been readily adopted, while others have gotten off to a slower start. We recently published a collection of fact sheets that outline implementation tips from organizations offering these less commonly adopted CalAIM Community Supports: 🔹 Asthma remediation 🔹 Day habilitation 🔹 Nursing home transitions/diversion 🔹 Personal care services and respite services 🔹 Sobering centers Check out the collection: https://lnkd.in/g9xkTp_7
