Using tobacco products is unsafe, especially for youth and young adults. When a young person starts using tobacco products (e-cigarettes, vapes, and chewing tobacco) they are more likely to become dependent on nicotine. Today, and every day after, help youth become tobacco-free by visiting https://sccoe.to/sccoetupe

What Trump Gets Right About a Key Harm Reduction Tool Millions of American adults vape. Most of them prefer flavored vapes, and many of them have used e-cigarettes to quit their habit of smoking. Barring some new information, they can plausibly expect that the products they use are more likely to be legally available under a second Trump administration than under Harris. Democrats can hope that this won’t affect the way these people vote, but it would be better if they didn’t face that tradeoff at all. The Harris campaign could make some effort to assure adult vapers that her administration will take the benefits of tobacco harm reduction seriously, ensuring that there remains a legal market for adult consumers while continuing to prevent use by teens. This World No Tobacco Day we are raising the voices of young people who are standing up against the tobacco industry. The tobacco industry targets children, aiming to create a new generation of Australians addicted to nicotine. Young people are vaping at alarming rates, and people who vape are three times as likely to take up smoking as those who have never vaped. Like Lily, who began vaping socially in high school but soon developed a dependency that significantly impacted all aspects of her life. By quitting vaping, she has experienced a newfound sense of mental and physical freedom, empowering her to achieve her goals and embrace a healthier, happier life. You can help stop a generation of Australians from becoming addicted to nicotine. The Federal Government wants to pass a new law that will stop vape shops from selling their addictive, harmful products, and make pharmacies the only legal place to buy and sell vapes – to be used by people quitting smoking, if recommended by their doctor. Nothing but clean air belongs in our lungs. So just like we protected the community from the harms of tobacco advertising in the 1990s, we can once again protect our children against the tobacco industry and vaping. Together we can help this important Bill pass through Parliament. Email your MP or Senator explaining why stopping the access and supply of non-therapeutic vapes is important to you. Generate a quick and easy letter to your senators to have your voice heard today, visit ccvic.org/vaping-bill For support for you or a loved one to quit smoking or vaping, contact 137848 or visit www.quit.org.au #WorldNoTobaccoDay #TobaccoExposed Quit

The Trump Administration prohibited 'flavored' pod-based vapes (to "protect teens") in Feb. 2020, but not 'flavored' disposables. Disposables sales skyrocketed after that. Who bought them? Not teens. Teen vaping dropped 56% after 2020. Altria's Q2 earnings report to shareholders shows exactly who bought them: Adults. https://lnkd.in/edRF34SC The FDA is now trying to remove these safer nicotine vape products from the market (to protect teens). It wants to prohibit products that nearly 12 million adults currently use to avoid toxic forms of tobacco, including the combustible cigarettes made and sold by Altria. Meanwhile, the entire US public health system seems blind to the fact that 28 million Americans continue to smoke causing 480,000 deaths every year. This is death toll is 5x the number of Americans who died from opioid overdoses last year, but it seems to have been grandfathered in. Most people who smoke are among our most vulnerable communities. Tobacco control has deliberately stigmatized all people who smoke for decades. I am reminded of a phrase from history: "Lives not worth living." Future health historians and bioethicists will have a field day with this.

This year the theme for the world No Tobacco day is protecting children from tobacco industry interference. On the verge of targeting their future market, this industry develops products and advertising tactics that appeal to children and adolescents, reaching them through social media and streaming platforms. Products such as electronic cigarettes and nicotine pouches are gaining popularity among youth. As per WHO, It is estimated that 12.5% of adolescents in the European Region used e-cigarettes in 2022 compared to 2% of adults. In some countries of the Region, the rates of e-cigarette use among school children are 2–3 times higher than the rates of cigarette smoking. The industry wilfully sells a deadly dependency to young people, therefore WNTD 2024 calls on the governments and tobacco control community to protect current and future generations and to hold the tobacco industry liable for the harm it causes. This is not all, parents smoking in front of or in their children's absence in home, unfortunately make them passive smokers which is more harmful for their overall well-being. It affects not only their tender lungs, hormonal balance, but also their neurological process thereby affecting overall cognitive capability. Let the change begin TODAY ! 🚭 #saynototobacco #passivesmokers #impairmentofbrain #safeguardfuture #breakthechain

I recently wrote an article for the Journal Record discussing how Oklahoma’s vaping epidemic is closely tied to our state's lax and outdated laws regarding tobacco and nicotine products. The latest data reveals that 21.7% of Oklahoma youth vape, placing our state among the top 5 in the nation for vaping prevalence. Additionally, we have one of the highest numbers of vape retailers per capita! Read more about this issue and what we can do about it here: https://bit.ly/3Vpavi7

Let’s talk about e-cigarettes and vaping… Among youth, e-cigarettes, especially the disposable kind, are more popular than any traditional tobacco product. In fact, according to the 2021 National Youth Tobacco Survey, more than 2 million U.S. middle and high school students reported using e-cigarettes in 2021, with more than 8 in 10 of those youth using flavoured e-cigarettes. Michael Blaha, M.D., M.P.H., director of clinical research at the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease, explains there are three reasons e-cigarettes may be particularly enticing to young people: 1️⃣ Many teens believe vaping is less harmful than smoking 2️⃣ E-cigarettes have a lower per-use cost than traditional cigarettes 3️⃣ Youths and adults find the lack of smoke appealing, with no smell, e-cigarettes reduce some of the stigma of smoking. Proven: Vapes are MORE addictive than regular cigarettes! In a study that involved 3002 young adults to assess nicotine dependence using: > 30 cigarette smokers > 30 exclusive e-cigarette users > 30 dual users ↳ The results showed e-cigarette users had more than double the nicotine dependence levels compared to traditional smokers. Dual users noted a higher nicotine dependence when using e-cigarettes versus regular cigarettes. Young adults have more addictive potential to e-cigarettes compared to traditional tobacco. Young adults are the most at risk! https://lnkd.in/ejQevFcE Thanks Ken Warner for your clarity. It's long overdue that public policy shifted to address the real, pressing and current challenges of supporting adult smokers to quit smoking or switch to reduced risk harm reduction measures. Opportunities to improve their quality and quantity of life has been seriously sidelined by an almost sole focus on youth access. This article suggests it's time to declare success on that and move forward. Millions of live will be saved as a result. #smoking #tobaccoharmreduction #youthaccess #vaping TobaccoHarmReduction.net American Vapor Manufacturers Association FDA
