What should a quality public space look like? How could we further utilize Manuals of public spaces to achieve this aim? We sought the answer together with other Czech cities in a workshop and lecture at Prague Institute of Planning and Development
🟦 AKO MÁ VYZERAŤ VEREJNÝ PRIESTOR? ODPOVEĎ SME HĽADALI SPOLU S INÝMI MESTAMI V CAMP - Center for Architecture and Metropolitan Planning 1 deň + 1 workshop + 1 večer plný prezentácii = XY inšpirácie. Takáto by bola rovnica podujatia, na ktorom sme nesmeli chýbať. Naša Miroslava Danova a Oto Novacek diskutovali so zástupcami českých samospráv, akým spôsobom manuály tvoria a aplikujú do života mesta. Vďaka digitalizácii môžeme pracovať efektívnejšie a plánovať kvalitnejšie, zdravšie a funkčné mesto. ◽Čo nás motivuje? Vidieť mestá, ktoré majú manuály už niekoľko rokov, ale neustále ich posúvajú ďalej. Za tím MIB: Výzva prijatá. 🤝 📷 IPR PRAHA, Jan Malý #workshop #mib #camppraha #centrumarchitektury #networking #vzdelavanie #manual #verejnepriestory #urbanizmus #bratislava #hlavnemesto #architektura #planovaniemesta #placemaking #mestskeplanovanie

Wisdom from Zhu Pei: "In the design philosophy, I advocate for a balance between low-tech and digital technology. While technology is indispensable for the construction process, it should complement the architect’s creative and artistic vision rather than replace it. Technology serves as a tool to facilitate construction, ensuring efficiency and precision while allowing architects to retain control over the artistic and poetic aspects of the design. The fusion of these elements, from my perspective, defines the critical role of imagination and creativity in contemporary architecture, rather than technology." "I place significant emphasis on creating mockups. Construction teams may lack the craftsmanship needed, often resembling farmers more than artisans. Mockups, in my experience, serve as a pivotal tool for cultivating and training individuals to execute the project according to your vision. Secondly, digital technology plays a pivotal role, especially when dealing with intricate designs. Notably, the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum, with its complex architecture and subtle double-curved structure, underscores the importance of both these aspects. The project posed challenges in pushing construction to its limits, with each segment exhibiting varying sizes and curvatures. To overcome this, digital technology became essential in driving the construction process." On April 4 – 6, the international conference FABRICATE 2024 will be held at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. Since its inception in 2011, #FABRICATE has established itself as a global forum for new radical possibilities for architecture and welcomed thousands of participants from practice, industry, and research. In this third article ArchDaily meet architect Zhu Pei who is the founding Director of #StudioZhuPei and Dean of the School of Architecture at Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Mesura is a Barcelona-based architecture practice that's been designing and developing breathtaking spaces for a decade. For its next chapter, the team turned to MOUTHWASH Studio to help reposition its efforts with a braver brand strategy, having realised that 'architecture and design go well beyond a built object, and oftentimes, have unexpected influence in adjacent fields.' As a result, the LA-based design studio has repositioned Mesura as a catalyst for transformation by leveraging its unique processes as brand-defining verticals of its practice. Mesura, which was once an executional architecture practice, is now a model for creativity. The model shift ultimately led to a refreshed identity, featuring a wordmark that holds a quiet confidence, and supporting typefaces that remain practical and flexible for brand evolution. Art direction and image treatments intentionally go against that of traditional architecture firms, giving Mesaura another visual point of difference.

Fumihiko Maki, a Japanese "starchitect", who won the Pritzker Prize in 1993, died last week aged 95. Around 10 years ago, I had the opportunity to interview him (and to present him with a monograph of my architect father's work, strongly influenced by his time in Japan). Here's something I appreciated from Maki-san's conversation with me: "When I was a young man, already some people said about my style that they liked my style of architecture because it was not a “one-liner”. I didn’t want to limit myself to a single architectural style. If you limit yourself to a single style, that style becomes your own enemy. So I tried to avoid that, but at the same time, be a modernist. I wanted simply to design buildings that would be as good as possible within their context, within their budgets. And to be well-liked by users. Today, I am trying to do the same thing." #japan #architecture

📣 Dutch Design Dynamics exhibition 🔜 to unveil in dynamic Shenzhen Organized by the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Guangzhou, and co-organized by the Netherlands Business Support Office Shenzhen NBSO China and Design Shenzhen, with ORANGE BRANDING and Triple Rooster as curation partners, FRAME as media partner, and partners including Brabantia | B Corp Certified, Bugaboo, @CEBA, Dutch Originals, Gispen Classics Today, Moooi, Nifti, Philips, Royal Delft, Trespa and Buildiitecture, the exhibition "Dutch Design Dynamics" is going to kick off on 21 March in Shenzhen, one of the most dynamic creative hubs in China. The esteemed exhibition aims to celebrate the legacy and the road to an innovative future of #dutchdesign, with a special focus on the urgent topic about the industry's commitment to #circulardesign principles. For over 400 years, the Netherlands has been a frontrunner in innovation and design, from invention of the stock market to the design of large sailing vessels. It is often referred to as the Dutch Creative Economy Power, which was co-created in the 20th century by the design landscape of what we call #industrialdesign. Some of the most iconic Dutch design pieces are created 100 years ago, and some of these are still in production! Dutch Design has been globally popularized by labels like Droog, Moooi, etc., but also, through multinational companies like Philips N.V. where the organization integrates design as a strategic management tool. In other global examples, designers from the Netherlands work at top positions at leading global brands like Heineken, BMW, Microsoft, Midea, Shell, and other Fortune 500 companies. In the last decades, products evolved by technologic developments like Internet of Things into Product Service Systems (PSS) and nowadays we are preparing for a Web 3.0 and Digital Multiverse Future. In recent years, Dutch Design has embraced a transformative approach towards sustainability, focusing on the dynamic future of a #circulareconomy. This shift reflects a deep-seated commitment to environmental stewardship, where Dutch designers and brands are prioritizing #renewableresources, advocating for recyclability, and minimizing waste. This move towards circular design principles not only highlights the Dutch dedication to environmental responsibility but also underlines its role as a beacon of innovation in design philosophy. Dutch design is setting a global example of how #sustainability can be seamlessly integrated with aesthetic appeal, charting a path for a more #sustainablefuture in design. https://lnkd.in/d8wFuBKw Efstathios Andreou Jorg van den Hoven (南美龙)Maarten Boer Alvis.
