👷 NATIONAL SAFE DIGGING WEEK! ⛏️ Here at BOA Plant; we recognise National Safe Digging Week 2024 – week commencing Monday 8th July. This week deliberately falls during the UK’s busiest time for digging, with July statistically the highest risk month for excavating. Projects involving any type of digging is at it’s peak, so what better time to bring awareness and focus to the dangers of digging without crucial safety checks and the importance of searching before you dig. UK law says you must prevent danger to workers in or near excavations, to maintain the required precautions, a competent person must inspect excavation supports or battering at the start of the working shift and at other specified times. No work should take place until the excavation is safe. No matter how big or small your project, from major construction to revamping your garden, safe digging is an absolute necessity. It is important to know what is beneath you, as well as overhead; ground conditions; nearby structures; trees; wildlife, to mention just a few important considerations BEFORE any ground is broken. The UK’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has put a concise set of guidelines in place to assist with the recommended checks – these can be viewed here: https://lnkd.in/e_6Z2G5K 👷♀️Happy & SAFE digging! 🚧 #NationalSafeDiggingWeek #SafeDiggingWeek #Digging #Excavations #Excavators 01525 289 621 | info@boaplant.co.uk | www.boaplant.co.uk

🦅 Birds can sometimes pose unexpected challenges on construction sites, requiring quick thinking and careful action from workers. Whether it’s a territorial swoop from a protective mother bird or a curious flock attracted to the site’s activity, knowing how to handle bird encounters is essential for maintaining safety and productivity. Here are some key strategies to keep in mind when faced with feathered visitors ⤵️ Do's: ✅ Stay calm, panicking can escalate the situation. Try to remain composed and assess the bird's behavior calmly. ✅ Protect your head, if possible, use your arms or an object to shield your head and face. Predatory birds often aim for these areas. ✅ Seek shelter, if available, seek refuge indoors or behind a barrier. Predatory birds are less likely to pursue if they cannot easily access their target. Don’ts: ❌ Do not scream or shout. Loud noises may agitate the bird further or attract more attention from nearby birds. Try to remain as quiet as possible to avoid provoking the bird. ❌ Do not run, running may trigger the bird's predatory instincts and encourage it to chase you. Predatory birds are exceptionally fast and agile in flight, making it difficult to outrun them. ❌ Avoid flailing your arms, while it's important to protect yourself, wild gestures or flailing movements may further agitate the bird or provoke it to attack. If you need construction safety training or certifications that are fun and engaging, check out our online and in person courses created by experts with over 25 years of experience in the construction and environmental safety industry.
