Sarah attributes her career growth to putting her hand up for opportunities she’s interested in and constantly asking questions. “If you’re interested in something, don’t be afraid to ask about it,” Sarah advises. “Even if there isn’t a current position open, there is likely an opportunity for mentorship or training.” Speaking about her personal experience, she adds: “After being with SPVG for three years in engineering, I expressed interest in learning more about other departments within the company and applied for a position internally, outside of engineering. While I was not chosen for that position, demonstrating that interest started a conversation with our local management team and I was offered an opportunity to move into technical sales and customer care. Shinheung SEC Completes Construction of Ulsan Plant as “Forward Base for US Electric Vehicle Battery Strategy” Shinheung SEC has completed the construction of a new plant in Ulsan, which will act as a supply base for the company's entry into the U.S. electric vehicle battery market. The plant, which required an investment of approximately 80 billion won, is set to start operations, producing semi-finished multi-assemblies that are essential for square battery components. These products will be supplied to a U.S. plant, also under construction near Fort Wayne, Indiana, where production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year. Once both plants are operational by mid-2024, Shinheung SEC anticipates the capacity to produce up to 5 million square cap assemblies per month, largely serving Starplus Energy, a joint venture between Samsung SDI and Stellantis. China decoupling will not be without pain and (continued) inflation, but manufacturing in other offshore bases will work to offset much of the supply chain impact. Ironically, decoupling from China will necessarily lead to even tighter coupling elsewhere, with the usual suspects of Korea, Japan, Mexico, etc. and new bases such as India and Vietnam.

Movo to provide $1.35 billion to Hyundai Motor to build electric vehicle production facility in the US The Korea Trade Insurance Corporation has finalized a $1.35 billion export financing agreement with Hyundai Motor Group to construct an electric vehicle production facility in Georgia, USA. This plant aims to enhance Hyundai's competitiveness in the North American electric vehicle market, with an annual production capacity of 300,000 units. Operations began in October, culminating in the inaugural production of the Ioniq 5 on November 3. This funding will strengthen Hyundai's position in a key automotive market and is expected to leverage tax incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act, potentially improving the pricing competitiveness of Hyundai vehicles in the US. Additionally, the facility will operate on 100% renewable energy, supporting eco-friendly initiatives and reducing carbon emissions. The electric vehicle industry requires substantial initial investments due to its scale economy characteristics. The Korea Trade Insurance Corporation is committed to supporting this sector, having previously financed Hyundai Mobis' US electric vehicle parts plant with a $940 million agreement.
