How can seniors and children thrive when Imagine chooses to OPT OUT of LANDLORD DUTIES (12)(a) (v) Whether the building has an emergency notification plan for the occupants and, if so, provide a copy to the occupants; (vi) Whether the building has an emergency relocation plan for the occupants and, if so, provide a copy to the occupants; and (vii) Whether the building has an emergency evacuation plan for the occupants and, if so, provide a copy to the occupants. (b) The information required under this subsection may be provided to a tenant in a multifamily residential building either as a written notice or as a checklist that discloses whether the building has fire safety and protection devices and systems. Greetings, friends! Over the past 10 months I have been asked dozens of times what is next with my lifelong work of coming alongside community to create healthy, vibrant places. The types of places that we all want for our kids and families. For 25 years I was afforded a tremendous privilege to work alongside my neighbors (who became my closest friends) to create an audacious vision of taking the neighborhood we were living and raising our kids in from a place of chronic private and public disinvestment to one rich in amenities, great public spaces and great schools, all while ensuring that those who had lived there all along were the primary beneficiaries of the work. Fast forward and we, alongside hundreds of families and dozens of partners, had collectively created Tulsa's only inclusively grown neighborhood. Through those 25 years I was constantly drawn to a question: why can't all kids experience this? With the level of resource this country has, why can we not see more communities flourishing? This past Spring, I quietly launched my own organization called Cerca Solutions . "Cerca" is the Spanish word for "close" or "proximate" (though, comically, it is also the word for "fence"). Proximity, in my experience, is one of the key values of getting to more vibrant communities. It helped me to discover that though many of my neighbors were living with a much different set of financial resources than I was, they wanted the exact same things I wanted for my kids - safe, amenity-rich places to play, great community-centered schools, and retail spaces that reflected our needs. The past ten months I have had dozens of conversations and have realized a huge hunger for communities all across the country to get to that state of vibrancy. So, we have begun assembling a team of people with expertise in housing and real estate development, education success, impact measurement, leadership development and beyond in order to help as many communities see their vision become a reality as possible. Additionally, we have big plans to produce content to help drive the dissemination of knowledge and evoke forward thought around comprehensive and inclusive neighborhood development. I figure that I'm overdue for an update. After celebrating 6 transformative years with the org on August 1, I am moving on from my role at Grassroots Leadership. It has been an amazing journey doing dope work with people that I love, AND it is time for me to have a different role in this movement. August 14 will be my last day as a staff member with the org that became my political home when I didn't know that I needed one. That brings me to my next update... The jouney of reentry is a lifelong process, and its landscape is treacherous for justice-involved people. Access to quality housing, employment, health care, education, and child care - to name only a few - are challenges that often decide between life, death, and institutions. Between the wave of drug-war PoWs being released after decades of warehousing and the people currently trapped in a "revolving door" relationship with incarceration, the reentry piece of carceral transformation is more important than ever. I know that the life I enjoy today is the exception to the rule. The thing is... I think the rule is firkn ridiculous, and I want to delete it. We want the exception to become the expected. We want to clear the obstacles keeping justice-involved people from having a real chance at prosperity. Now I have a chance to do something about it. As of August 1, I am the Executive Director of Building Promise USA. Time to barbecue or mildew. Who wants to change the landscape with us?

Building Bridges for Community Growth At the core of every successful initiative is the belief that progress must be inclusive and equitable. Throughout my career, I've focused on creating strategies that not only solve problems but also empower communities, elevate underrepresented voices, and drive sustainable growth. One of my guiding principles has always been to connect governments, businesses, and nonprofits through public/private partnerships that deliver measurable outcomes. Whether it's revitalizing infrastructure, ensuring small businesses can compete, or fostering workforce development, the goal is the same: build opportunity and trust. Today, I’m reflecting on some of my favorite projects that demonstrate the power of collaboration: The Boynton Beach Community Needs Assessment, which strengthened education-to-workforce pipelines and expanded affordable housing opportunities. The Baltimore CitiStat Initiative, which saved $13 million in its first year by leveraging data to drive performance and transparency. North Miami Beach's Capital Improvement Program, where projects delivered critical infrastructure upgrades and fostered trust through transparency. Each project reinforces the idea that real change happens when we prioritize community voices, data-driven solutions, and equitable strategies. As I continue this journey with Kaizen Management Solutions, I’m excited to partner with leaders, organizations, and communities who share this vision. How My Last Employer Made Me Homeless, Again After enduring 18 months without stable income, I temporarily moved in with family, hoping to rebuild (yet again). I had landed what I thought was my dream job—a second chance at NYC and everything I had worked for. I changed custody arrangements, planned for over a month to relocate, and poured my energy into making it work. But instead of supporting me, they eliminated me. Here’s the reality I’m now facing: • I have $100 to my name today. • I am on government assistance. • I drive a car that is way behind on payments to deliver for Uber. • I am depressed and isolated. Yet somehow hopeful. I have a master’s degree, 20+ years of extensive experience, awards, press, and public recognition. None of that mattered. This is the harsh reality of what many of us face, regardless of our qualifications and achievements. I’m sharing this because it’s important to talk about the struggles behind the success stories and to remind others going through it that they are not alone. Let’s continue the conversation. We can build better, more compassionate systems, and I’ll keep pushing forward to do just that.
