How can we better illuminate Hispanic heritage in our workplaces?🌎 As someone who grew up as one of the only Puerto Rican families in my Pittsburgh neighborhood, I know how important it is to feel seen and valued. I grew up surrounded by diversity, attending a Catholic school in a Jewish neighborhood, and making friends from all walks of life. But, like many, I also experienced rejection, racism, and exclusion. It was confusing and painful, but it never stopped me from loving people and embracing diverse experiences. 💛 It’s these experiences that drive my passion for creating inclusive workplaces, where everyone feels they belong. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 (September 15th - October 15th), is an opportunity for companies to foster more meaningful connections with their diverse workforce. It doesn’t have to be grand gestures—small actions go a long way. ✅ Encourage open discussions ✅ Highlight the contributions of Hispanic employees ✅ Celebrate the richness of different cultures. 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱. As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on how companies celebrate Latino culture. While festivities and cultural recognition are important, it’s equally vital that these celebrations are accompanied by a real commitment to inclusion. It’s not enough to showcase our heritage for one month without addressing deeper issues around hiring, retention, and representation. Companies need to ask the tough questions: What does our hiring data say about Latino representation? Are we fostering environments where Latino employees feel valued and supported in their career growth? Are we investing in long-term initiatives to ensure that our workplaces reflect the diversity we celebrate? Genuine celebration comes when companies take actionable steps toward inclusion year-round, ensuring Latino talent thrives at every level. Let’s move beyond token gestures and work together to create meaningful change
