As a first-generation Cuban American, Hispanic Heritage Month is more than just a celebration of culture; it’s a reflection of the sacrifices and dreams of those who came before me. My family’s journey to the U.S. was filled with hope, resilience, and an unbreakable will to create a better life—values that continue to guide me every day. Growing up, I watched my grandparents and parents navigate a new country, often caught between two worlds. They taught me that our heritage is not just something we carry, but something that empowers us. It’s in the way we approach challenges with tenacity, in how we prioritize family and community, and in the pride we take in hard work, no matter the obstacles. This month, I’m not just celebrating my Cuban heritage, but the power of possibility. Being the bridge between my family’s immigrant roots and the opportunities I’ve pursued in America has shaped my understanding of success—success that isn’t just personal, but collective. In a time when diversity in the workplace is central to workplace culture, my heritage reminds me that different perspectives are the engine of innovation. Hispanic culture, with its rich history of art, music, and storytelling, teaches us the importance of celebrating every voice (not just the loudest). So this Hispanic Heritage Month, I reflect my family's perseverance, and the power of embracing where you come from…because it's this foundation that has fueled my journey forward. Let’s continue to amplify the voices of all those who make our communities and workplaces stronger, more vibrant, and filled with possibility. #HispanicHeritageMonth #FirstGenPride #CubanAmerican Corvus Strategic Advisors

Keep the conversation going by sending weekly emails highlighting key contributions and cultural impacts of Native Americans. Include recommendations for books by Native American authors to deepen understanding. 3. Share information about local Native American cultural events and encourage staff attendance. 🌟 Honoring Juneteenth: Empowering Through Hospitality and Travel 🌟 Today, we pause to honor Juneteenth, a landmark in our history that symbolizes freedom and the end of slavery in the United States. This day is a powerful reminder of resilience, courage, and the ongoing journey towards equality. At the heart of our industry—the hospitality and travel sector—we hold a unique opportunity to drive social empowerment and make a lasting impact. Here's how we can lead the way: 🏨 Championing Inclusivity and Representation: Diversity isn't just a buzzword; it's the essence of a vibrant, innovative industry. By embracing inclusive hiring practices and cultivating environments where everyone feels welcomed and respected, we enrich not only our businesses but also the lives of our employees and guests. Representation matters, and it starts with us. ✈️ Fostering Cultural Exchange and Education: Travel is a bridge to understanding. When we promote and respect cultural heritage, especially the rich histories of African American communities, we foster a world of empathy and appreciation. Let’s use our platforms to educate and inspire, turning every journey into a story of connection, learning and respect. 🌍 Driving Economic Opportunities: Our support for Black-owned businesses and local enterprises can spark significant economic growth in underrepresented communities. By highlighting and partnering with these businesses, we can channel resources and attention their way, paving the path for sustainable development and prosperity. 🤝 Engaging with Our Communities: True impact starts at the grassroots. By participating in local initiatives, forming strategic partnerships, and organizing community events, we strengthen our bonds and support meaningful causes. Let’s make our establishments hubs of dialogue, unity, progress and endless opportunities. Honoring Traditions with Respect and Inclusion - I’ve been reflecting on a conversation that many DEI professionals are currently having: the increasing shift from Halloween to Día de los Muertos in workplace celebrations. While it’s exciting to see a growing interest in celebrating traditions that are deeply rooted in Mexican and Latin culture, it’s equally important that we approach these cultural celebrations with sensitivity and respect, avoiding unintentional appropriation. Día de los Muertos is about honoring ancestors, and this practice can be sacred across many cultures. Recently, I learned something profound about my own ancestors—my great-grandfather, who was enslaved in North Carolina, fought for freedom in the Union Army during the Civil War. It’s a legacy that fills me with pride. Yet, history reveals a more complex narrative: some of those Black troops were later sent west to fight against Mexican and Latino communities as the U.S. expanded. This personal discovery made me question how we honor our ancestors in shared spaces like Día de los Muertos. It raises a critical question: How do we respect cultural practices when our histories intersect in ways that aren’t always easy to reconcile? As we think about bringing Día de los Muertos into our workplaces, I encourage us to ask: Are we honoring the tradition respectfully, or are we unintentionally disconnecting it from its meaning? How can we ensure inclusivity without diminishing the cultural significance of these traditions? Maybe the best way forward is by seeking guidance from those with direct connections to the culture, asking, “Can I participate and learn with you?” Let’s use these moments of reflection to ensure our celebrations are mindful and meaningful, fostering a workplace culture that honors diversity in its fullest sense. What are your thoughts on how we can create culturally sensitive and inclusive spaces at work? #CulturalSensitivity #DEI #InclusionMatters #WorkplaceCulture #CulturalAwareness #RespectfulCelebration #DiversityAndInclusion #CulturalTraditions #DiaDeLosMuertos #InclusiveWorkplace #HonoringAncestors

On September 16th, in honor of Mexican Independence Day and Hispanic Heritage Month, I had the honor of leading an amazing internal webinar for my team, called "Connecting La Cultura: Hispanic and Latin American Voices in Travel and Tourism." 💡 Why does this matter? Creating a space where my colleagues can ask questions, engage with thought leaders, and learn from each other is so important. It opens up the conversation, builds understanding, and helps us all bring diversity into our everyday work—whether that's in marketing or community-building. 💡 Why does this matter to me? Building awareness about my community is critical. Not only in marketing practices but in spaces where we don't get the recognition and power that we’ve earned and worked so hard for. We are entrepreneurs, we are change-makers, and we are people who love to help others. I want to make it a priority to not just understand the value of the Hispanic traveler but to actually invest in the Hispanic/Latin American traveler. We don’t just work in the industry; we are active travelers, and we travel in BIG groups. 👏🏽 Important topics that we covered throughout the panel session: ✅ The diversity within the Hispanic and Latin American community, including indigenous roots, LGBTQ+ identities, and other intersections. ✅ The spending power of Latinos and Hispanics and how the travel industry can do a better job of engaging and serving this key demographic. ✅ Practical strategies for creating more inclusive, culturally respectful marketing practices. Gracias a los panelistas 🙏🏽 Thank you to the panelists that joined us: Marisol Vindiola, Senior Digital Sales Manager at Orange 142 Danny Guerrero, CEO and Founder of The Culturist Group Flavia Cornejo, travel blogger, writer, and creator behind Latina Traveler Your insights were incredible, your perspective was essential and I’m so grateful to have had you as part of this conversation! I’m also really proud to work at Miles Partnership, an organization that continues to advance its commitment to DEI. We are evolving how we approach marketing, driving innovation, and empowering our team members throughout the process. This wasn’t just about celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month—it was about making real change in how we think about diversity and inclusion in the travel industry. Also, thank you to my colleague Felipe Jimenez for creating this amazing graphic that creates a great example of how to incorporate our culture into marketing 🤩🙌🏽 #HispanicHeritageMonth #ConnectingLaCultura #InclusiveTourism #LatinosinTravel #Travelandtourism #DEI

It is so important for employees to feel embraced and respected in their individuality within the workplace. Companies must understand that celebrating a group of people and their heritage goes far beyond crafting beautiful and engaging marketing campaigns. It requires embedding respect and inclusivity into the very core of their values, creating space for individuals to authentically be themselves.
As businesses and employees, November offers us a chance to honor and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Native American communities. However, our recognition shouldn’t stop when the month does. Celebrating once a year is meaningful, but acknowledging and uplifting these communities should be part of our daily values. By integrating diversity and inclusion into our workplace culture, we not only show respect but actively support equity and representation. Here are a few ways your organization can make a difference this month and beyond : - Engage in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Partner with Native-led nonprofits and businesses to amplify their work and support sustainable community initiatives. - Educate Your Workforce: Host events, and webinars, or invite speakers to share the history and modern-day achievements of Native American groups. - Review Internal Practices: Assess hiring, procurement, and philanthropy practices to ensure they support Native communities. Commit to Long-Term Change: Develop actionable strategies that keep Indigenous inclusion at the forefront of your CSR and community engagement efforts. Let’s use this month not just to celebrate but to strengthen our commitment to acknowledging and supporting Native American communities every day of the year. Together, we can create workplaces that honor and respect the diversity that shapes our society. How is your organization celebrating Native American Heritage Month? Let’s exchange ideas and inspiration.
