#TRAI RECOMMENDATIONS ON ‘ ENCOURAGING INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES, SERVICES, USE CASES, AND BUSINESS MODELS THROUGH REGULATORY SANDBOX IN DIGITAL COMMUNICATION SECTOR'
Recently, TRAI released its recommendations on regulatory sandbox (RS) for innovation in digital communication. This initiative was taken by TRAI in conjunct with a #DoT reference, stakeholder inputs, and the Telecom Act's definition of an RS.
The proposed framework by TRAI provides for using cross-sector cooperation in carrying out RS testing with the help of various agencies and other ministries.
The said framework, it is hoped, would give the Digital Communication industry's startup ecosystem, an access to the real network environments and other relevant data of telecom network to help test the reliability/ruggedness of new applications before making them commercial.
The #TRAI press statement stated “In view of new technological developments in #5G/6G, M2M communications, AI, the IoT, VR, and others, there is a need to provide an environment in which new technologies, services, use cases and business models can be tested in live networks, or existing functions or processes can be refined.” It further explains that “Regulatory Sandbox (RS) makes real-time but regulated access to telecom network and customer resources, something that is not possible in conventional methods of lab testing or pilots.”
According to TRAI, provisioning such a unique framework for live testing in India will, in coming times, encourage a greater number of entrepreneurs to develop optimised solutions for the digital communication industry.
