We have not written or posted much about the CrowdStrike failure. As CrowdStrike is designed and priced for large enterprises, we offer endpoint protection, detection, and response services that are better designed for the small and midsize organizations we serve. In large part, the CrowdStrike failure has not directly impacted our clients and other smaller businesses. However, the CrowdStrike failure has, and will, indirectly impact you and your business. Technical Impacts: The biggest technical impact will be the role of automatic updates. The CrowdStrike failure was due to a programming error in a software update that was sent and applied automatically. Customers did not have the ability to limit or test the update prior to the changes being sent to every device. Going forward, expect vendors to rethink how and when they use automatic updates, and when they will expect the customer to test and approve changes. This shift will transfer more of the responsibility from vendors to your IT team. If you do not have the resources to test and verify updates, you will be taking on more of the responsibility should issues arise. If you have an IT provider or managed service provider, you may need to negotiate this additional work into your contracts. #CrowdStrike #BusinessResilience #SmallBusiness #ITServices #ManagedCloudServices

A week on from the CrowdStrike outage, and as the impact diminishes it's time to reflect. While none of our customers use CrowdStrike directly, they might use other services protected by CrowdStrike, affecting them both personally and professionally. The cybersecurity industry will learn and improve from this incident. However, it is a fast-paced field, and staying one step ahead of innovative cybercriminals requires rapid technological deployment and change. Without these continuous updates, the risk of a customer being infected with ransomware is much higher, and the consequences far more severe. Modern businesses rely heavily on cybersecurity platforms, and their failure can cause significant issues. The key takeaway is the necessity for rigorous change control and testing processes. Our advice is to ensure a multi-layered approach to security and avoid relying on a single vendor or system to protect your entire network. Additionally, companies should prepare for unexpected outages by having a tested BCDR plan that aligns recovery times and objectives with business needs. Don't forget about the aftermath. Global issues like this often lead to a rapid increase in phishing activity, with cybercriminals setting up fake domains, sending malicious emails, and creating fake websites offering fixes and downloads. If you have any concerns about your cybersecurity, risks, or disaster recovery, please get in touch. #CrowdStrike #DisasterRecovery #Cybersecurity

⚠️ Crowdstrike has stopped pushing out the update which brought upon this "Blue Screen of Death plague" you've heard about today BUT... that will only stop new damage! It still appears that if your computer or server got this update and has the BSOD problem the only way to fix it is manually. by manually I mean, someone has to go to each and every computer, sit down at the keyboard and go through a procedure. 😳 Today, many companies want a 100% remote IT support solution to save money. That means you have no one to put boots on the ground to resolve this sort of nightmare for you. This is a prime example of why our company has always promoted the fact that we have talented, knowledgeable, local people who come to your business in person! On site, in person service is the key to a solid IT environment.
