It was a privilege to attend a Parliamentary Friends of Women in Sport event earlier this week celebrating our Paris Olympians and Paralympians, and in particular our women who brought home 13 of our 18 gold medals from the Olympics. The event was perfectly timed to coincide with the Albanese government’s announcement of the National Gender Equity in Sports Governance Policy, which will mandate that National Sporting Organisations must have a 50/50 gender split on their boards or risk losing federal funding. This Policy is a welcome step towards increasing diversity within sports adminstration in Australia. Currently, many boards—particularly national ones—have strict eligibility criteria, often requiring several years of prior board experience. To meet this important gender equity target, boards will need to rethink these requirements and make leadership positions more accessible to individuals who may not have traditional board experience but bring a wealth of other valuable skills and lived experiences. Recognising lived experience is a crucial pathway to achieving gender equity in governance. I admire Netball Australia's forward-thinking approach in appointing Liz Ellis to their board. By leveraging her extensive experience as an international netballer, they’ve enriched their board’s perspective and are better positioned to drive meaningful outcomes for the sport. This is a great example of how organisations can benefit from valuing diverse forms of expertise beyond traditional board experience. ⚽️🏆 The countdown to the 24/25 Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship season has begun! With the Women's Professional Game now independently running the leagues, I am excited about the positive changes ahead for women's football. Expect new broadcast deals, increased brand and sponsorship opportunities, and enhanced club guidance. 📈 Exciting developments are already underway. London City Lionesses under Michele Kang's ownership, introduced Swedish captain Kosovare Asllani as a new signing, alongside Jocelyn Precheur as the team's new manager. The club is also investing in a new training ground and home stadium. 🚩 In contrast, some clubs are moving in the wrong direction. Manchester United's decision to prioritise the Men's team over the Women's by relocating them from their training facilities is disheartening. It's crucial to highlight such disparities in support for women's football, sending a negative message to aspiring young female players worldwide. Let's amplify this conversation to ensure equitable treatment across all clubs and support the growth of women's football. It’s time to advocate for equal opportunities and resources for women in sports. #WomenInFootball #EqualityInSports

Here's a draft LinkedIn post based on the article summary: --- 🥊 Gender Eligibility in Sports: A Complex and Controversial Issue As an industry expert in sports governance and ethics, I've been closely following the recent controversy surrounding Algerian boxer Imane Khelif at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This case highlights the ongoing challenges and debates in sports regarding gender eligibility and fair competition. Key Points: 1. Khelif and Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting were disqualified from the 2023 world championships after failing unspecified gender eligibility tests. 2. Despite this, Khelif was cleared to compete by the IOC for the Paris Olympics. 3. Khelif's first bout sparked controversy when her opponent quit due to the severity of her punches. 4. The IOC defended Khelif's right to compete, citing her female birth, passport, and history of competing as a female athlete. Industry Implications: • This case reopens debates about the validity and fairness of gender eligibility tests in sports. • It raises questions about the consistency of policies across different sporting bodies and events. • The controversy may lead to increased scrutiny of existing gender verification protocols in international sports. Current Trends: This issue aligns with ongoing discussions about inclusivity and fairness in sports, similar to cases involving athletes like Caster Semenya and Lia Thomas. It reflects the broader challenge of balancing fair competition with athletes' rights and identities. As professionals in the sports industry, we must grapple with these complex issues: • How can we ensure fair competition while respecting athletes' rights and identities? • What role should science play in determining eligibility criteria? • How can sports organizations create more consistent and transparent policies? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this matter. What do you think is the best way forward for sports organizations to address gender eligibility issues? #SportsEthics #GenderInSports #OlympicControversy #FairCompetition --- Call to Action: Let's engage in a constructive dialogue about this important issue. Share your professional insights in the comments, and if you're interested in exploring this topic further, feel free to connect with me for a more in-depth discussion.

As the pinnacle game of the A-Leagues for women approaches this weekend, there's been some talk of crowd size at the Grand Final. Will the stadium be full? Should tickets be given away? Why don't more people come to women's sports? If there's one thing the World Cup showed us, it's that the past is no guide to the future when it comes to #womensfootball. We are still shaking off the effects of decades-long bans and derogatory presumptions about the value and quality of women's sport. So many myths were busted last year, like: 📺 nobody wants to watch women's football - just the biggest TV ratings EVER recorded in Australia ⚽ the game is too slow - just a lazy 111km/h ball speed from Chloé Kelly for a winning penalty, faster than ANY shot for any Premier League goal last season 🏟 there's no atmosphere at the games - just a new decibel record at Lang Park, louder than any State of Origin, ever! Today I shared a few thoughts with the The Guardian (link below) on the booming value of women's football - both as a sporting spectacle, and for the values it represents: gender equality, women's empowerment, and broad social inclusion. It's a rich new vein of sport, and marketers are finding audience gold. It's past time to overthrow the tyranny of low expectations - tune in, show up and see the A-Leagues Dub Grand Final for yourself! Saturday 4.15 pm, AAMI Park in Melbourne or Network Ten Melbourne City FC v Sydney FC Nick Garcia Helena Dorczak Professional Footballers Australia Football Australia FIFA Women's World Cup™

⚽️ [Sports Biz News]🇪🇸Cádiz CF Women's Team Accelerates Women's Football Growth Through Partnership with EDASE👏 Cádiz CF Women's Team, a prominent participant in Spain's "Primera Federación Femenina" league, has renewed its partnership with EDASE (Escuela de Asesores), a leading Spanish consulting and advisory education institution. This renewal is a significant milestone for both organizations, as it reaffirms their commitment to promoting women's football and supporting the growth of female athletes at all levels. The sponsorship will see EDASE's logo proudly displayed on the jerseys of the first team, reserve team, and junior team, symbolizing a deepened collaboration that goes beyond mere financial support. This partnership is a strategic move that not only enhances EDASE's brand visibility in the sports sector but also aligns with broader goals of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. By investing in women's sports, EDASE is actively contributing to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women in traditionally male-dominated fields. The partnership between Cádiz CF Women's Team and EDASE exemplifies the power of sports marketing in driving both business success and social change. For Cádiz CF, this sponsorship provides a stable foundation for further development, enabling the team to strengthen its competitive edge in the league and inspire the next generation of female footballers. As we reflect on the incredible achievements at the Paris Olympics 2024 🇫🇷, one fact stands out: Women were responsible for 60-65% of Team USA's gold medal victories🏅. This is a powerful reminder of the strength, skill, and determination that women bring to the world of sports. Being from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, I take pride in the fact that the only two gold medals for our small island have come from women: Monica Puig in women’s singles tennis (2016) and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in the 100m hurdles (2020). It's time to recognize the immense potential in women's sports and make meaningful investments that match their impact. The success we've witnessed isn't just about winning medals, it's about breaking barriers, inspiring future generations, and redefining what's possible. Investing in women's sports is investing in the future of sports. Let's continue to support and amplify these incredible athletes who are leading the industry. #WomenInSports #Olympics #Investment #SportsLeadership
