Childhood abuse esp. from caregivers may lead to adults internalising, justifying and accommodating manipulative, controlling and abusive patterns from others in their adult relationships. Knowledge itself may not be enough to break these patterns. Consistent and nonjudgemental support in unpacking, understanding and changing these patterns would be helpful for survivors. #16 days of activism to end Gender Based Violence (GBV)

The government needs to establish hot lines and emergency settings for mental health services for both victims and potential perpetrators to prevent future GBV incidences. We also need to integrate gender equality and non-violence education into school curriculums and community programs. Training community leaders, including men, to advocate against violence and serve as role models for healthy relationships. The establishment of emergency shelters and support groups to provide women with immediate help and ongoing support. Men need drop in centers where they can let out their steam in non-drug and alcohol settings. Community programs that engage men and boys as allies in preventing violence by promoting respect for women and healthy masculinity are crucial. Encouraging individuals to speak up against violence, providing self-defense training, and helping women recognize warning signs of abuse are all ways in which we can fight GBV. Information settings run by professional staff for counselling can go a long way considering poverty and unemployment can be major factors. Services of this nature should be free to empower the community. Families teaching non-violent conflict resolution, respect, and empathy to young children can help to break cycles of violence. Nyumba kumi concepts also play a significant role with proper training. #16DaysOfActivism #16DaysAgainstGBV #TimeToActNow #PreventViolence #StopTheViolence

As the International Day of Persons with Disabilities coincides with the #16Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign led by UN Women, a reminder that women and girls with disabilities are likely to experience higher rates of gender-based violence, sexual abuse, neglect, maltreatment and exploitation. Women with disabilities can be extremely isolated when violence occurs, making it more difficult for them to escape and report the abuse. Stigma and discrimination can further reduce access to services or information, or result in their accounts of violence being dismissed by responders. #AbKoiBahanaNahi #DisabilityDay Join the movement to say #NoExcuse for gender-based violence: https://lnkd.in/gS7aS3H3

November 25th marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women—a day to reflect, raise awareness, and take action. Did you know that globally, 1 in 3 women experiences physical or sexual violence in her lifetime (UN Women)? Here in Australia, almost 1 in 4 women has experienced intimate partner violence since the age of 15 (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2021). While these numbers are alarming, we believe in the power of change. Together, we can break the cycle of violence by supporting survivors, challenging harmful norms, and fostering respect and equality in all spaces. This is ending, and each step we take brings us closer to a safer world for women and girls. Let’s all work towards it. 💜 Resource by UN Women #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #BreakTheCycle #RespectAndEquality #OrangeTheWorld #TogetherForChange #StopGenderBasedViolence #EmpowerWomen #SupportSurvivors #SayNoToViolence #HumanRightsForAll #AlignedCommunityCare #NDIS #NDISCommunity

Physical violence, as a form of GBV, is a serious issue that affects millions worldwide. It often has devastating and long-lasting consequences on victims, both physically and emotionally. Addressing this issue requires a multi-faceted approach, including legal protections, victim support services, education, and changes in societal attitudes towards gender inequality and violence. #knowledgeempowers ##crediblevoices #safespaces

In this latest article, I write about the biased purity expectations across gender and the ways this ideology gags girls & young women especially in victimisation contexts. I touch on the intersections between expectations, silence, shame, responsibility, bodies, agency, violence and tenets and the possibility to rethink 'survivor' intervention methods for a different inclusive approach.
