One of the leading causes of death of children in the Pacific is not what you might expect. CEO Josie Pagani spoke with Jenny-May on TVNZ's Breakfast this morning about how dirty and contiminated water is a major contributor to diseases like diarrhoea. And for children, it can lead to dehydration, malnutrition, and even death. 💧 Improving access to clean water and sanitation offers the greatest opportunity to reduce mortality rates for communities in the Pacific, particularly in the Solomon Islands and Kiribati. 💧 See how you can support the work to help bring clean, safe drinking water to a child in the Pacific: https://lnkd.in/gSy2rQGV #ChildFund #CleanWaterProjects

Malnutrition, in all its forms, includes undernutrition (wasting, stunting, underweight), inadequate vitamins or minerals, overweight, obesity, and resulting diet-related noncommunicable diseases. Nearly half of deaths among children under 5 years of age are linked to undernutrition. These mostly occur in low- and middle-income countries such as Lesotho. Women, infants, children, and adolescents are at particular risk of malnutrition. Optimizing nutrition early in life –including the 1000 days from conception to a child’s second birthday – ensures the best possible start in life, with long-term benefits. #ChildNutrition #EnoughWithMalnutrition #SDGs #WorldVisionLesotho

Unsafe water and sanitation contribute to the deaths of 1,000 children each day, with malnourished children under five years old particularly susceptible to waterborne diseases. Action Against Hunger's 2024 Water Funding Gap report finds that globally, only 36% of appeals for water- and sanitation-related funding were met in 2023, leaving a 64% gap. This report examines trends in funding for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs, which are key to preventing malnutrition and promoting health. #FundTheWaterGap Find out more: https://bit.ly/48UEUK1

According to a survey from World Vision and IPSOS, 59% of parents/guardians are very concerned about child hunger and malnutrition in their family. We need to do better. By supporting World Vision’s global campaign #ENOUGH, you can help fight against hunger and malnutrition in families. The faces of hunger may surprise you. Many who need assistance are middle-class families, the working poor, children, and the elderly. No one should suffer from a lack of access to quality and nutritious food – but they do. In fact, close to 1 million Hoosiers need food assistance. When two local organizations like Gleaners Food Bank and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield unite, we can make a profound impact in addressing the correlation between food insecurity and overall health in our region. https://ow.ly/aaGK30sAPv9

Virginia’s food insecurity rate stands at more than 8%, meaning over 700,000 people worry about where their next meal will come from on any given day. These numbers are even more staggering for low-income individuals, including our aging population, who may be living below the poverty line and managing a serious illness. Through our recent collaboration, Food & Friends has expanded their innovative program, Specialized Nutrition Services for Seriously Ill Virginians, by providing 29,000 additional medically tailored meals to residents with diabetes and/or heart disease and facing food insecurity. Our organizations focus on programs that demonstrate improved health outcomes for individuals with chronic conditions and create greater access to healthy and nutritious food by improving and delivering affordable, medically tailored food options among food-insecure populations. Read more from Food & Friends and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation and how they are fortifying communities and ensuring that all individuals have the chance to flourish, regardless of their circumstances. https://ow.ly/MyZA30sB7GY
