Reflecting on this post about suburban planning and its impacts, I see a troubling reality still present in #Italy today. It's surprising that even São Paulo, Brazil, sometimes offers more walkable environments than the charming small villages of a top European travel destination. The space given to cars and their drivers often overshadows the proven value of walkability and urban safety. The state of public transportation also offers incredible opportunities for improvement, investment, innovation, and, why not, even profit. Speaking of profit, local authorities are missing a minefield of revenue by not charging (and thus educating) drivers for not respecting speed limits. You would be amazed at how much behavior changes when law-breaking has financial consequences. This situation shows the urgent need for better urban planning, compliance, and regulatory frameworks that prioritize pedestrian safety and environmental sustainability. As a professional committed to enhancing environments through regulatory and environmental solutions, I advocate for policies that ensure safer, more walkable communities. Our climate is also changing because most communities are not allowed to choose the simple right to walk over taking a car. Would you not choose to walk, ride a bike, or take decent public transport if it were available to you? I think most of us would say YES. #UrbanPlanning #Sustainability #EnvironmentalRegulation #Walkability #Compliance #Citizenship #Biology #Reflections #Traffic #PublicTransport #Italy
Door-to-door school bus routes, two-car families and chauffeured children did not become common because people preferred them. They were the costly consequence of decades of planning that presumed falsely that everyone drives a car. Children kept walking to school even as rapid suburbanization made the walks long and unsafe. Meanwhile planners designed new suburbs as if everyone drives. Their plans often omitted sidewalks; sometimes planners were not permitted to commit road funds to sidewalk projects. In the era of the one-car suburban home in which the man typically monopolized the car, such plans often ignored both schoolchildren and their mothers, exposing children to lethal danger. In 1964, six-year-old Carloyn Behrens was killed on a sidewalkless suburban road in suburban St. Louis County. Her story stood for countless others like it.

The #BlackPantherPartForSelfDesense #BPPFSD were never on the opposite side of any entity except, the #RacistPolice, #JudicialandGovernmentPuppets of the #WhiteSupremacist #PowerElite! The #BPPFSD formed the first #MultiCultural, #MultiGenerational, #MultiReligious "#RainbowCoalition"; #Partnering when it made sense with #StreetGangs, when positive results could be achievable. I am not belittling The Concept of #BLM, nor the concept of The #SevenPrinciples of #Kwanzaa. In both cases the original leadership + Ideator of both concepts were compromised and flawed; financed by interests opposed to the organization's stated mission and goals. The Leadership of BLM bought #multimilliondollar #mansions; while #nothelping #victims of #racistpolice; Twelve Years of Age Victim #TamirRice's mother to name one in particular. The #RonKarenga creator of Kwanzaa was a documented #FBI #informant, reporting directly to #JEdgarFgHag!!! Nuff Said!!! I wrote BLM management, I guess, to reel in a young woman, identifying as BLM's Illinois Leader, appearing on network news in Chicago, during one of the #GeorgeFloydMurder #Protests. She advocated the downfall of #RevJesseJackson for whatever reason. I have no great love for Rev JJ, but I acknowledge + appreciate his #leadership and #tireless work benefiting those he has helped.
In January, 1969, the Free Breakfast for School Children Program was initiated at St. Augustine's Church in Oakland by the Black Panther Party. The Panthers would cook and serve food to the poor inner city youth of the area. Initially run out of a St. Augustine's Church in Oakland, the Program became so popular that by the end of the year, the Panthers set up kitchens in cities across the nation, feeding over 10,000 children every day before they went to school Photo: Nancy Thompson ,Black Panthers' Free Breakfast for Children' program (Oakland, 1971)
