I am delighted to share our lab's latest publication in the International Journal of Phytoremediation. This work led by Ms. Pem Choden and Dr. Toemthip Poolpak showed that O. gratissimum in combination with Cd resistant PGPR M. luteus can be efficiently used to remediate Cd and petroleum co-contaminated soils. Pem Choden, Toemthip Poolpak, Prayad Pokethitiyook, Kwang Mo Yang, and Maleeya Kruatrachue (2024). Nature has bestowed each fruit and vegetable with a #signature #biomolecule and abundant so in the peel/skin. #Quercetin is abundant in onions. Good or waste, onion has Quercetin and extraction of the same is a value proposition. BTW many of us have consumed Quercetin during #covid19. This paper tells the scheme of extracting Quercetin from waste #onions. #wastetowealth #nutraceutical MOFPI Government of India

Check out our new research article on Value addition of Onion waste. Our research group is working on biomass valorization using "Waste to wealth" strategy. Quercetin, a polyphenolic antioxidant with excellent pharmacological properties is abundant in Onions. A molecularly imprinted polymer was computationally designed and further validated experimentally to recover quercetin from onion peels. Congratulations to all the authors. https://lnkd.in/dAB58_Ri #quercetin #wastetowealth #onionwaste #molecularimprinting #valueaddition

Magnesium-modified biochar (MgBC) shows superior arsenic removal from water, with a 13.5-fold higher adsorption capacity than unmodified biochar. Optimal sorption occurs at pH 5–6. MgBC is reusable with NaOH desorption and effective in solid-phase extraction applications, highlighting its potential for environmental remediation. https://buff.ly/3Z0oQTT #Biochar #Pyrolysis #CarbonCapture

[Daily Lab Video Glimpse] While I mostly work on thin film photocatalysis - it's always a pleasure to assist my colleague with her experiments (biogas & methane production from ... well ... cattle byproducts shall we say). So what you are witnessing here is a flame, produced by the result of about four days of anaerobic biofermentation of cow manure (with some additives), yielding about 0.8L of biogas with 70 vol.% methane (10 vol.% CO₂) content, according to our trusty Dräger X-am 8000 gas-analyzer, equpped with an IR CH₄ / CO₂ detector pair.

Hydrogen production using biogas or biomethane can be achieved through natural gas reforming (steam methane reforming), a well-established technological pathway involving a typical thermochemical reaction process. The SOEC-CH₄ electrolytic water coupling with biomethane for green hydrogen production in stacks offers an innovative electrochemical hydrogen production method.

Our freshly-baked publication on the "Effects of Salinity on Glycerol Conversion and Biological Phosphorus Removal by #Aerobic_Granular_Sludge" in #Water_Research 🔬 📚 In this work, we provided insights into the effect of salt on the operation and stability of the #EBPR and #AGS processes. The findings suggest that maintaining a balanced cation ratio is likely to be more important for operational stability than absolute salt concentrations in these processes. This work would not have been possible without the invaluable contributions of Fleur de Clercq, Martin Pabst, Dimitris Xevgenos, Mark van Loosdrecht, and Mario Pronk as co-authors! https://lnkd.in/esm3fBfw
